I’m heart broken, and I’m on my own crying.

I’m away with work on a business trip, I’m heading home today… but my childhood dog has been put down over night, my mum told me as he got very poorly and he had a horrendous turn. I’m on my own in a hotel room, 200 miles away from home and I’m so sad, I can’t even hug my husband because he’s not here. He’s also a sleep as he’s at home with my kids ( my post is at 6am ) and he doesn’t even know. I feel so sad and I’ve got to face work colleagues at breakfast in 2 hours.

am I being silly?

God bless Milo.

Im three months on from losing my Dani. She was just amazing, as have been all my dogs. I am still crying frequently, it is so very painful… Had to tell her grown-up human siblings on the phone, and they were devastated too. Your mum will be feeling it hard right now too. Everyone needs to support each other. Sending you hugs

You are not being silly @mumstheword1x . Pets are part of our family and we grieve for them when they leave us. He looks absolutely adorable from your photo. I lost my last cat nearly 3 years ago and I still miss him so,so much and I do still sometimes cry when I think about him.

I'm sorry your Mum didn't wait until you got home to tell you, but she'll be very upset too. Hope you don't have to do any work today, but were just heading home anyway after breakfast.

When we lost our dog 2 years ago, i
logged onto work first thing but told a colleague I’d be disappearing as soon as I could get a vet appointment. I was told, in no uncertain terms, to log off and come back when ready. I was back the next day but it wasn’t really expected back until the following day.

It would be a very heartless workplace that wasn’t sympathetic to you.

So sorry 😥He was such a handsome boy and obviously a well-loved furry friend.

Im so sorry, It must feel like a family member has died. i know I love my dog like a family member and it would affect us all very badly one day when it happens. This is a devastating time. I feel that if you cant hold yourself together for the work meeting its totally okay to explain your childhood dog has passed away, you'd be surprised how many ppl can relate to that. Find comforting thoughts on the happy life he had in his time with you and your family.

Well I’m tearful about a stranger on the internets dog passing away so you’re definitely not unreasonable, no. Look after yourself x

What a gorgeous boy! Westies are truly the most wonderful dogs, I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye, My old westie girl Jessie is sorely missed daily. They fill a very particulate hole in our hearts xxx

I don't think you are being silly. We found out that our beautiful Birman cat had a tumour and the only humane thing was to euthanise her. I took the day off work. The vet and her assistant came round to her house and she died in a favourite place with her family around her and my youngest son holding her. We all cried - my sons, my husband and me. I still tear up thinking about it. After several months one of my sons broached the subject of us getting another cat. Our new Tonkinese cat is lovely. She doesn't replace our old cat - she looks different and has a completely different personality - but we love her equally.
