If he's broken the law I presume we'll find out when it goes to court. If it wasn't illegal then I'm not convinced we (the general public) have any right to know.

10namechangeslater · 30/03/2026 16:32

I’m interested to know why he was sacked. I’ve listened to his breakfast show for a while now as it’s on during the school run. I want to know what he’s done so I can make a decision about whether or not to listen to him in the future when he pops up elsewhere.

Breadandblutter · 30/03/2026 16:25

I’d say as licence fee payers we have a right to know why he was sacked, but we don’t have a right to go fully into his personal life. Some people are wrong uns, but even they have some right to privacy.

As tax payers we fund the NHS. Do you think that every time a nurse is sacked there should be a public announcement?

No of course I don’t.

It's not generally headlines though, It's the top story on the BBC all day that they sacked him, they have made a public announcement.

Precisely.

Surely that depends on why she was sacked.

When you announce a sacking publicly people are going to speculate.

If you then shut down and say nothing that speculation grows. We’ve already had people speculating about why SM might have been fired, based on previous conducts of other BBC personalities.

Not at least giving some indication in this instance could lead to far more damage to the individual if that’s not the reason than if they at least give some indication as to what it was about.

Let’s not pretend that the vast majority won’t have jumped to a certain conclusion here.

Janesput · 30/03/2026 16:43

If it's not the public's business why not just say he's left?

AutumnLover1990 · 30/03/2026 17:19

Callmebubblesdarlingeverybodydoes · 30/03/2026 12:14

Could be anything. Maybe having an affair, or sending sexual messages to a consenting and legal aged adult. Could be the above with a minor.
Could be he’s got a drug or alcohol problem.
Could be he’s said something inappropriate to another person, such as something racist or any form of discrimination.

Does it really matter?
Why should it be public knowledge?

Having an affair isn't a sackable offence though.

Janesput · 30/03/2026 16:43

Probably because something is likely to come to court. Or they fear it might.

prh47bridge · 30/03/2026 17:24

The Mirror, claim the allegation relates to a historic relationship dating back more than 10 years. As Mills is gay, this is presumably a relationship with a man. I have no idea whether the Mirror is correct.

Neither is texting sexually to an adult , as long as consensual and not in the work place, or having a drink or drug problem,,

im stunned anyone thinks you could be fired for these things.

quiteathome · 30/03/2026 17:25

If nurses or other healthcare professionals are sacked or struck off the information is published. You can read about it on the professional bodies website, it is quite interesting.

That is because this information falls under one of the public interest exemptions in GDPR. Whatever Mills has done is unlikely to fall under an exemption. It may be interesting to the public to know the details of the allegations, but there is no public interest in us knowing.

LumenLights · 30/03/2026 17:36

If it was something illegal, they wouldn’t have referred to it as a relationship.

StationJack · 30/03/2026 17:39

'His firing allegedly centres around a “historic male relationship”.'

'It is believed to relate to Mills’ relationship from more than 10 years ago, according to The Mirror. The Standard has contacted Mills’ representative for comment.'[ (Evening Standard)

No it shouldn't. It's none of our business. Would you expect to know why someone from Sainsbury's has been sacked just because you've bought your bananas from them? Or why a Sky employee was sacked because you pay for the movie channel?

It's a different funding model for the BBC. It's public money, we should know.

Read my posts. It doesn't work like that. If the BBC told us the reasons in any more detail than they have, it would be a clear breach of GDPR.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/03/2026 17:46

Got drunk at a recent party celebrating 100 years of Nature programs, called Attenborough a twat, waved his Willy at the DG and shat on the buffet table - allegedly

They had to override Simpatico in order to lock him in Frankie Howard to calm down

If a nurse or any other Registered HCP is disaplined, sacked and had their registration removed it is published

They can't. It's not public money, it's the money from members of the public who have a TV licence.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 30/03/2026 12:45

Very likely the same as all the other men who worked for the BBC (who have been sacked.)

Use your imagination!

None have been sacked so swiftly and before anything was public or investigated.

thunderful · 30/03/2026 17:49

I’ve never got a creepy vibe from Mills even though I’ve never been a fan. Seems unfair to be dismissed over an allegation so there must be proof?

HoskinsChoice · 30/03/2026 17:51

Whosthetabbynow · 30/03/2026 15:41

Anything I was paying for, yes

With the exception of free charity services, every single employee in the world works for a company that delivers products or services that are paid for. That includes you. If you were disciplined for some reason, I presume you would you be happy for it to be in the public domain because somebody is paying for the services your company provides??

zanahoria · 30/03/2026 17:53

I am guessing it is another 'unwise but not illegal' scenario
