To think people shouldn't be helping themselves to my chocolate?

My mother's day and my birthday chocolates are on the side, and DH and dBIL just think they can help themselves and then get all nardy when I say "hey! That's mine"

I happily share it... On my terms. But just helping yourself is poor form, surely??

Touch my chocolate and you’ll be straight under the patio.

If it’s lying around in the kitchen, it means I’m happy to share it, and anyone can help themselves. The expensive Italian chocolates DH brings me home from Venice have a special drawer. Those aren’t for sharing.

Can’t say I’d give a crap tbh, it’s chocolate!

There's a clear difference in my house, chocolate bought with a grocery shop is fair game for anyone. However I've got birthday and Mother's Day chocolate hanging around (Lent) and even though it's been sitting in full view on the coffee table DH and DS wouldn't dream of touching it. I'm not sure if that's because they're polite and well brought up, or scared of my wrath. 🙂

My Mothering Sunday chocolate is a distant memory. How can anyone have chocolate left from then?

because they're the Lindor and I find them "too much" to scoff, plus I had birthday chocolates and end of term chocolate all in quick succession

It's not about it being chocolate, it's about it being a gift to me.

Could be some nice fave cream or alcohol or spending your Amazon Vouchers or whatever you do give a crap about other people using when the item was given to you as a gift.

I shouldn't have to hide it.... But I will.

Leave a box out, injected with strong laxatives.

DH is bad enough, BIL is a greedy, selfish and entitled to help himself in another person's home.

dollytea · 30/03/2026 21:45

@tnorfotkcab but it is only chocolate! If it’s a big deal tell your husband to replace them. Using someone’s vouchers is different to eating some chocolates.
I'm not really that precious over most things.
