Neighbour’s Dope Smoke

TooMuchDopeSmoke · 29/03/2026 08:40

Almost daily we have the smell of dope wafting into our house from the neighbours. I think it’s the grown up son who smokes. (This is a bit lighthearted) but would I be unreasonable to suggest they switch to edibles? And would I WhatsApp the parents or stop the son on the road to do so. It’s possible he’s only smoking when the parents are out although they can’t be ignorant of his habit. It’s quite intrusive having the smell inside our home and with summer coming windows will be open .

I think there should be universal credit penalties for those who smoke weed and bother others.

Myfridgeiscool · 29/03/2026 13:19

It’s such an antisocial activity. Tell them to do it in inside your own house rather than subjecting the neighbourhood to the revolving stench.

I think if you’re tax payer funded, there should be penalties in the form of benefit restrictions for anti social behaviour

Benefit restrictions? How does that work when the person being anti social isn't on benefits?

It wouldn’t work, but let’s be realistic about if it would be needed for them.

My neighbour has full time job and decent income. My flat reeks of weed because of him.

I know he has a decent income because as well as his day job, he tops up his income by selling drugs. You must live a very sheltered life if you think it's just benefit claimants who use drugs

What do you do for rich people who post weed then?

Op I would totally go on the WhatsApp group and suggest the neighbourhood smokers move to edibles- let us know what the response is!

I just think people are due some basic respect and consideration from those who they fund through their taxes. Penalties on UC for antisocial behaviour may help enforce this.

What part of rich people take drugs too are you not understanding?

Whowhatwhere21 · 29/03/2026 18:19

Depending how old the lad is speak to him, or the parents if hes still youngish.

My partner has it prescribed and I'm very cautious of the smell. He started off smoking it in the garden until I pointed out I could still smell it inside the house, so if I could, the neighbours likely can too. He was obviously oblivious to it himself as he wasn't in the house with someone outside smoking it.
I'd advise not to go in all judgmental about it, otherwise they may let it carry on if they take it as you being a bit stuck up. Just say you've got no issue with what hes doing but the smell is coming into the house quite badly and affecting you. Would it be possible for him to pop down the bottom of the garden ( if its far enough away) or take a quick stroll when hes smoking it?
Hopefully they are reasonable and will understand.

I work for a multi millionaire with a 4 bedroom home that 21year old son smokes weed outside their out house in their massive garden.

I understand all of it, if they’re using drugs in anti social way then at least I don’t have the added insult and annoyance of funding them doing it.

Tell me you generalise and stereotype the underclass without telling me you generalise and stereotype the underclass xd plenty of people smoke weed, across all social classes.

What?? You mean it isnt just those scum claiming benefits who smoke weed?? 😱😱😱

worldshottestmom · 29/03/2026 19:26

Seriously though, beyond having a word with the parents there is not much you can do (depending on the age of the son). It is so socially accepted these days and is on its way to being legalised in the UK and honestly police dont care. Especially if you live in a city. Can't walk outside without smelling it anymore its kinda depressing sometimes.

Well that wouldnt work in my social circles where no weed smoker is on UC

So is that what really matters to you? Not whether someone is being “anti social” but whether they claim benefits?

So only some people are punished? Not everyone who smokes it is on UC

Personally I think it should be legalized. But people should also take others into consideration when smoking ( cigarettes or weed)

TheVeloursImgonnaChangeNsoul · 29/03/2026 19:54

Hashish smelt so much nicer than stinking weed.

Where has hash gone? Why is it always weed you smell these days? It was 90% hash in the 90s

Where does it say the person was on UC? You must have benefits claimants living in your brain rent free. 🤣

It add insults to injury, funding people to inconvenience and disrespect you. In general I find people who work to support themselves less prone to antisocial behaviour.
