To complain to garage after finding something disgusting in my car?

Shmee1988 · 27/03/2026 07:12

So, last week I contacted a garage local to me as my car was due its MoT and service. The man I usually use retired last year so this was the first time using this garage. They asked me to stop my car down on Monday morning and pop the keys through the letterbox. I had no choice to do this as they open at 9 but I WFH with 9am start. I wrote my number down on a bit of paper and put it under the windscreen. I didnt hear back all day so at 4pm I rang twice, no answer and eventually went down at 5pm. The car hadn't moved and the place was all locked up. I rang the ring doorbell and after a few minutes the woman who runs the place came down looking half asleep and have me some absolute bs excuse about why my car hadn't been done. She said she got confused about what it was in for but didnt have my number. If she had have looked, it was there! This ain't convenient with 2 kids, a job and multiple after school clubs as im sureant of you know.
Anyway, she gets to it on Tuesday, the car fails and work takes a couple of days so I finally get a call to say its ready at 4:30pm yesterday.

Shes left the wheels on the wheel for me and gone home, fair enough. When I open the back door to put my son in his car seat, there is a disgusting, huge, used sanitary towel, with blood and pubes just laying on my back seat. Now I know without a shadow of a doubt it wasn't there when I dropped the car off. Firstly because I haven't used towels in 20 years, I am the only female in our family and my car was fully valeted 2 weeks before it went in.

Would I be u reasonable to pursue this and ask for an explanation and apology? Or is it pointless drama?

YABU - bin it and let it go
YANBU- complain!!!

I found something to report. And poof, as if by magic she's gone 😂

Can you get a car clean for £30 where you live?

Glasgowgal200 · 30/03/2026 19:13

Who's the 4% saying she is being unreasonable!!!!!!! It's disgusting and probably the owner getting her own back for OP pulling them up for car not being sorted

Spidey66 · 30/03/2026 19:20

That’s grim. I’d definitely complain.

a few years back I’d been swimming in the gym. They had a spin dryer for you to your costume through. I put mine in, put the lid to start it and thought there was a strange noise. When I took my costume out there was a used sanitary towel in there. I mean who uses a sanitary towel swimming? A tampon or a moon cup surely?

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 30/03/2026 20:18

£30 is far too little! At least £80 by where I live

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 30/03/2026 20:35

I would be more concerned that they left your car keys on the wheel of your car for you pick the car up. We have a dealership and service centre, no motor trade insurance (or your personal car insurance) on earth would pay out if it had been stolen! That's unbelievably unprofessional.

Shmee1988 · 30/03/2026 20:54

Just to clear something up, the lady didn't leave the keys out. I was working so my dad went and paid her and took the key. He then rang me to ask if he could leave the key on the wheel arch as I was due to finish work and walk round the corner to pick it up, that wasnt in her.
And yes, I can get a decent inside and out for about £40.

She says she has no explanation but either the dog was in the car or she used it for rubbish.

I didnt even see what she said (shame). For about £40 I can get a relatively decent inside and out, yeah. I just feel a bit violated, which I know is weird.

How very odd and that's a real mystery as to the reason even if you know the culprit.

I'm a big Sherlock, Jonathan Creek and anything puzzling related fan and I have been thinking on this for the last few hours. Do you still have the towel? DNA ancestory could possibly throw some light on the subject namely 1. identify if it was indeed non-human (a dog in this case) if not then 2. Give the family history of the culprit.
I've actually made a few other notes and started a folder, would it be possible for me to take this case on op? @Shmee1988

NoisyMonster678 · 30/03/2026 21:12

Urghhhhh.

Write a complaint and print a paper copy, then give them hell for leather for :-

  • The utterly disgusting and recklace state they left your car in.

  • For not completing the MOT like you had previously agreed.

  • Insist you are expecting a free MOT and valeting at their expence.

I think you really need to lay into them, a phone call is best because their behaviour is the stuff of nightmares and they need to be shamed.

Bitteralmond · 30/03/2026 21:50

It is probably blood. People use dog nappies for bitches on heat. I know. I have a pet shop and this is the most common reason they are purchased.

But the OP was told that the dog was male.

The dog is a puppy and definitely male.

Oh yes, I had totally forgotten that. Maybe poor dog wees inside because he has an infection and is passing blood. Seems strange that the wee looks like blood.

Im wondering if its maybe an old one? Does wee tend to look darker in pads if been there a while? Like maybe in a bin bag or something? I genuinely have no clue

Yes, I had forgotten that bit. I walked away from the thread and was pondering dog nappies and thought I had a eureka moment.😀 Seems as if he jumped in your car and ripped his nappy off.

Satarn · 30/03/2026 22:52

I dont beleive any of it.

Shesafancyflapjack · 27/03/2026 08:48

So the mechanic is a scruffy and slovenly woman who not only couldn’t be bothered to MOT and fix your car but also somehow placed her blood stained sanitary towel on a rear seat for you to find? And she lives above the garage like in a 1950s Mid West road movie? Of course this happened

Gave me such a laugh I got hiccups 🤣

Satarn · 30/03/2026 22:52

Thats fair enough. But please, just so I can stop wondering, explain why? As in, what reason would anyone have to make this up? What would be the goal?

I thought you were unsure if that story was actually told in order to distract you from the real culprit and there were darker motives at play with need of investigation?

Hopefully the matter is now resolved but if there are any loose ends please get in touch and I'll leave this as open rather then closed case

Well, I would honestly love to know how it got in my car. I replied to the lady and asked if the dog was in my car or if she was using it to transport household rubbish. Funnily enough, no reply as of yet.

Well I absolutely love a mystery and looking to start a career as a private Investigator (PI) full time soon. I have concluded 2 cases so far with 56 in motion. 1 of the investigations was incredibly physically and emotionally draining I had to take a year off to find myself. Once a case is resolved I have a blog my sidekick writes up with names changed. If you ever need any further help please let me know
