Am I mad to be switching my hybrid job for long commute?

As above really - I currently work two/three days a week in a local office, with the others at home and have great flexibility.

For various reasons, I am seeking a new job and have found 2/3 of real interest.

The ‘issue’ is that there would be a daily commute of c.1 hour each way (2 hour round trip each day).

I am now doubting whether I’m being ridiculous to give up my current arrangement, albeit in a job that is no longer fulfilling and at times making me miserable.

To those who’ve done similar, or who currently commute daily, what do you think?

Not looking for a debate on the merits of home/office working , purely people’s experiences of that type of daily commute 😀

Id focus on career progression. Is this good for your career? Once you say have worked a year or so could you look for your next role nearer home?

Is commute straight forward motorway or lots winding roads.

I was kind of in this situation and went for plan C - another job.

It was going to add another 8 hours to my working week. I didn't think it worth it. Something else came up soon after that has some travel and some wfh.

1 hour on public transport, yes. 1 hour driving, no. With PT you can at least read, play games, watch TV etc.

Assuming it's 5 days a week - so 10 hours commuting? (Ie more than a working day in itself).

Not for me. Unless the job was something actually amazing, life-changingly good...

Do you need to get home to strict deadlines eg childcare pickup? The longer you're on the road in rush hour, the less predictable the commute can be ime.

I do a couple of days in the office which is an hour plus commute each way. Looking for a new job because all you need is one set of roadworks and you are done for.
