Anyone else awake? In so much pain and feeling v sorry for myself!

Thought I probably had sinusitis yesterday as the back of my nose/top of my throat and mouth were so sore. Overnight it seems to have turned in to tonsillitis. I’ve got huge white spots all over my tonsils, I can’t sleep because everytime I do I wake up gasping for breath, I can’t swallow because the pain is so intense so I keep having to spit out my saliva jnstead (sorry TMI). And now my ear hurts too. Waiting for a call back from out of hours gp so hopefully they can give me some antibiotics but I could really do with being distracted. So why is everyone else up?

Sympathies - sounds thoroughly miserable. Do you have any ice cubes or ice lollies in the freezer?

I have a huge spot/boil on my elbow which has been painful for a few days but has been getting worse and finally seems to be coming to a head. It woke me up - ridiculous for something about the size of a 5p piece!

Oh no, hopefully if it’s coming to a head it will soon be gone! Sympathies that you are also in pain and unable to sleep!

It was my birthday yesterday and we had an Indian takeaway for tea. I've been dieting/eating healthily for months and seemingly I can't tolerate a treat anymore. I feel so bloated I can't sleep

Ps are you sure it's just tonsillitis. My daughter had a quinsy(?) where she was unable to swallow saliva. Glad you've rung the out of hours service. Hope you get a call back soon

Can you gargle with some water and crushed aspirin? Or do you have any liquid paracetamol such as Calpol or liquid ibuprofen? If you could swallow those it might help.
I don’t know why I’m awake! Went to bed early knackered after a day of grandchildren so maybe I’ve just had enough sleep.

I’ve got a cold so not sleeping very well, plus now I’m awake I can’t get back to sleep due to anxious thoughts. My sympathies OP, that sounds horrible.

Yes been awake over 2 hours, trying to sleep (I'm ill) till I gave up, made some porridge, and came here. Don't know exactly what woke me.

I think you need to be seen asap, in case you have a quinsy (as per pp). They can come on quickly. Can you get to a hospital/urgent care?

Hi Op, it's a hot and sweaty 34 degrees here today and I'm sat in Starbucks for the a/c! It's lunchtime and I'm thinking of going to the pool later for a swim.

Tonsillitis is hellish, I hope you get some antibiotics soon and start to feel better.

I am awake too. It's almost like an alarm 4am most nights .

Anything that keeps you up in pain at night is dreadful. Morning and relief seem so far away . Hard to sleep except upright which is crap . If it gets to stage where you are having difficulty swallowing saliva you need urgent attention as it's likely a quinsy . Hope you get attention and start feeling better soon.

I've took my prescribed benzodiazepene at midnight and have just woke up. I don't know whether to stay up or risk going back to bed and wake up too late as I am feeling pretty drowsy. I might just stay up and do some cleaning. I'll have a coffee and see

I'm sorry you're suffering sounds like you need antibiotics and possibly steroids I would call 111 if I were you

Do you have ice to make a cold drink and ibuprofen to bring down the swelling ?

I'm up now. Have the clocks gone forward? I have a bad tummy from curry yesterday. I was at a wedding yesterday and now feeling flat and tired.

I realised no one had done the school shirt wash and youngest needs a white shirt for a recital later today so I got up to put a wash on but it's going to keep me awake when I go back upstairs.

I feel your pain OP, Ive been on antibiotics since Friday for the same. The glands in my neck are so swollen and painful and it feels like my throat is closing up. The white spots are still there on mine, does anyone know how long until the antibiotics are supposed to properly kick in? I’m worried they’re not working, but I’m probably being impatient. Last night I had to sleep on a towel due to sweating so much. Hope you manage to get some antibiotics x

I’m wide awake as I had surgery last week. I’m still very sore plus I haven’t had much sleep since as it hurts to move in any direction so I can’t get comfortable. Now I’m on the sofa listening to the dog snoring while I wait for the pain relief to kick in.

I had this once, throat so saw that I spat out my spit. By the time I got to the GP I was thoroughly fed up and started crying, so he asked me if there was anything else bothering me. So I just asked how he thought he’d feel if he couldn’t swallow his own spit!

Sorry I didn’t come back. I ended up in hospital. They were brilliant to be fair, I was taken to a ward within 30 minutes. The infection had made me much more poorly than they first thought so I’m hooked up to lots of different machines and medicines. Waiting to see an ENT specialist now.
