Can sinus infection make it hard to swallow and talk?

Felt a bit rough with a cold the past few days, then been up all night last night with really painful sinuses. This morning my voice sounds really nasally and keeps almost cutting out when I’m talking, feels like my throat is getting blocked. Also difficult to swallow anything and am having to breathe through my mouth. Is this just a normal sinus infection? And if so has anyone found anything that eases it?

Honestly you probably need to see a doctor. It could be a normal sinus infection, it could be something else. No one on here can tell you. Your symptoms sound severe so get on the phone and arrange to see someone.

Its very likely connected, due to nasal drip down your throat overnight. But do get it checked as you may need an antibiotic.

I think you need to see a gp (pause for hollow laugh knowing getting an appointment is a challenge in itself) because sinus infections can progress to being a serious problem and it is clearly causing you significant difficulty already.

I get sinusitis quite often when I have a cold. Your symptoms are very likely just a normal sinus infection. For me, it sometimes goes on its own but it does take at least 10 days to clear. Sometimes I need antibiotics to clear it. I would try Beconase nasal spray which is a steroid and it helps with the inflammation. It takes couple of days to work. I only get antibiotics when it gets quite severe like swollen eyes, toothache and stabbing pain in my sinuses
