Preferably ones that don’t need breaking in.

Thank you, but I was looking for specific recommendations.

What sort of shoes?

I think you probably need to be more specific about what your style is, what activity for, what sort of thing you have tried and not got on with etc

I just realised I wrote shoes in general in my question, instead of trainers. It’s trainers I’m looking for.

I need them to be suitable for long city walks. I have New Balance 480s at the moment, but they rub after walking short distances.

I find Asics trainers comfortable.
Adidas Gazelles and Sambas are very popular but I find them lacking in support and uncomfortable.

66babe · 21/03/2026 11:27

Anything Sketchers will be comfortable
Had lots of them and never a pair that needed breaking in

Right2BareArms · 21/03/2026 11:58

@66babe , I've only had one pair and it was decades ago when they seemed a newish brand. I wore them for years until they were completely worn out.

They were a bit like D'Lites - Retro Rewind | SKECHERS UK

Malasana · 21/03/2026 12:47

Skechers are the ones I always found the most comfortable

permanently · 21/03/2026 12:58

Joya’s.

Fitflops are great!

lemonraspberry · 21/03/2026 13:05

Hoffs are very good. Can buy them directly or through outlets

makiandmango · 21/03/2026 13:12

Came on to say Hoff too. I have two pairs and they are so comfortable

Oh yes , love my Fitflops too , although more sandals .. they’ve been taken over by Archie’s - which I highly recommend but for full walking shoe / trainer I’d go with Sketchers

Kay286 · 21/03/2026 14:20

Uggs lowmel ! Not exactly a trainer but classed as a sneaker but more trendy looking - I love mine so comfy ! Wear almost every day and they are a lot more hardy than the usual Uggs so you don’t need to worry aboit discoloured if it’s wet etc

Saucony Shadow 5000!

ToadRage · 21/03/2026 15:34

I love Skechers slip ins, I have 2 pairs and pair of regular Skechers. None needed any wearing in comfy from day 1 and they fit my ankle/foot orthotics in which is the most important thing for me.

Missymarple · 21/03/2026 15:41

I went on a cruise a couple of years ago, we did a lot of walking and the most comfortable trainers I wore were my £8 trainers from Primark. I had them in a few different colours and wore a different pair each day, I had no blisters at all and my feet weren't even tired at the end of the day. They have memory foam soles and are surprisingly lightweight too. I took along my Skechers and some Asics but nothing was as comfortable as the Primark ones. I don't know if they still sell them or they've gone up in price but I still wear them and they're a joy.

IWaffleAlot · 21/03/2026 15:49

On cloud. I always come back to them. So super comfortable.

Happyjoe · 21/03/2026 15:59

I use walking boots, bought some black ones (men's) from Next last year and didn't rub and fine from the off. https://www.next.co.uk/style/st137969/377657
They don't really look very walking booty, so that's good for me. I wish I could wear trainers but I have bone spurs on my heels, so all trainers rub and never stop.

Asics are recommended highly for foot issues too, like plantar fasciitis. Supposed to be very comfortable and supportive, perfect for long walks!

Lovingthelighterevenings · 21/03/2026 16:04

If you have a pair of running trainers you bought on the basis of a gait analysis, I'd try and get the same type of trainers for walking (your knees and hips will thank you if you feet land well)

DelphiniumBlue · 21/03/2026 16:35

Fitflops. Much more supportive than Sketchers, and longer lasting. They currently do a keyworker/senior/student discount, which is great .

SunshinePlease24 · 21/03/2026 20:56

Puma speedcat. So comfy.
