Where do you get rid of clothes? Have you tried Thrift Plus?

I have lost a load of weight and have lots of clothes to get rid of. However the bag of clothes has been 9m and is still waiting

I considered using Vinted but seems a lot of effort to sell a dress for less than £5.

I saw an ad for Thrift+. Is it any good? The idea of someone else listing and selling my clothes, or recycling ♻️, feels very attractive right now given I have so mu ch going on at work and home!

any pros or cons of using them?

where / how do you get rid of worn adult clothes?!

YABU - sell them yourself!!
YANBU - send them to Thrift+ (or recommend somewhere else easy for a busy working mum!)

I got under £20 from Thrift+ for two big bags of clothes and shoes that I reckon I'd have had well over £100 for if I had sold on Vinted. Things like new in the box Kurt Geiger shoes, perfect condition dresses from Karen Millen, John Lewis brand etc all listed for peanuts and most didn't sell because the photos were terrible. Bizarrely the best price I got was for a Next top that I think they sold for a tenner. By the time they take their cut it's a waste of time. I'd either use Vinted or put straight to a charity shop.

I’ve made nearly £2k on Vinted over the last 2 years and it’s paid for so much for me. It’s a ti y bit of effort for a lot of return. I’m currently paying for 4 days in Majorca with my Vinted dealings.

I wish someone would set up a business doing this (maybe you would want to!).

Back in the early 2000s there used to be “dress agencies” where you could take in good quality clothes for them to sell on commission. They would sell for you and give you half of the proceeds.

Yeah, Thrift+ (thrift.plus) is a legit, established UK company — it's a real pre-loved fashion marketplace based at The Foundry, 156 Blackfriars Rd, London, and it's got a proper SSL certificate and thousands of Trustpilot reviews, so it's not a scam site in the "fake shop that vanishes with your money" sense.
That said, the reviews paint a pretty clear picture depending on which side you're on:

• As a buyer: Generally good experiences — items arrive quickly and are usually good quality, prices are decent, and sizing tends to be accurate. Trustpilot
• As a seller: This is where it gets messier. There's a real pattern of complaints about items being rejected as "unsaleable" with no proof or explanation, customers finding it hard to get a human on customer service rather than an AI bot, and feeling shortchanged when only a handful of items from a bag of 20-30 are deemed sellable. Commission/fee structures have also drawn criticism, though the company says it's adjusted its fee model over time in response to feedback. Trustpilot

So — genuine company, safe to buy from with a normal card/PayPal transaction, but if you're planning to send them a bag of stuff to sell, go in with tempered expectations about how much you'll actually get paid out, and maybe photograph everything before you send it just in case you need to query a rejection.

I started giving stuff away that I no longer needed years before Ebay or Vinted were popular and when charity shops were the only option. The habit has just stuck.

I'm fortunate enough to not be struggling for money so I'm happy for charities to make a bit if they're able to. Plus (if I'm totally honest) I really couldn't be bothered with the hassle of working out the weight, parceling stuff up and then taking it down to be sent off to the buyer. I'd much rather just pop into town and hand stuff to a charity shop to sort out.

I have sent 4 bags to Thrift+ over the years and I have now decided to stop. Although the company is legit, I have only had bad experiences trying to get a bit of money off my items. I liked the idea of 1/3 for me and 1/3 given to a charity of my choice, but everything was selling at a ridiculous price. The worst bit is that I only sent designer items and strangely all the most expensive ones were "unsellable"...when there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. I suspect that someone was simply stealing the items. I complained and got a bit of credit to spend on their platform, not very helpful. I was hoping to get at least £300 with the last bag I sent them. I got £20 in total. It fells like giving away things you have spent good money on. They are a joke and their commission is not justified. I would avoid them. I use Vinted now and feel more in control. I store the items I don't wear anymore in the loft until they sell. You don't have any clutter in your wardrobe and get a bit of cash for things you want to buy. I have also stopped buying things that I find beautiful... I buy things I need in my wardrobe, it saves money!!

That certainly sounds like a light fingered person is working there. I'm glad I've seen this thread as I was seriously considering sending a big bag to them.

There is another post on Mumsnet relating to the same experience I had. Don't send them anything expensive as it will vanish.

I've made nearly £200 selling with Thrift+ as of this week. Touching wood, but so far I have never had an item rejected and I like the fact I don't have to do the photography myself or go backwards and forwards to the post office.

I am very careful what I send, I never send anything that isn't on their very strict list of companies they will resell, anything in my wardrobe that isn't on that list goes to the charity shop, and even though I might not get as much as I would on Vinted, I've heard some horror stories from friends about Vinted so would rather take the lower price and have someone else do the legwork.

I've also bought from Thrift+ and it has always come nicely packaged and within 48 hours of the order and I've kept the items. HTH.

Edited to say - I've never sent designer items so haven't had a light fingered experience.
