to hate the way the chefs on Masterchef always say 'plate of food' instead of just 'food' or 'dish'?
I HATE IT.

8 had to switch womans hour earlier because the guest kept saying ' if that makes sense?' after every sentence. So annoying

Oh my GOD! I had to do first aid training this week and, to keep paying attention, I did those little gate things every time the trainer said "does that make sense?"

One hundred and eleven times 😂

I get enraged every time someone says ‘in any way, shape, fashion or form’ as in ‘I did not steal that thing in any way, shape, fashion or form’. Just SHUT UP!

I've never heard the fashion part, but I hate that expression.

It's the way people say it...

There's no such thing as a wayshape.

Does anyone know why Jamie Oliver feels the need to salt 'from a height'
Is it a clever technique to garner a saltier flavour perhaps?

Has anyone answered this yet?

It's so the seasoning covers as wide an area as possible. If you do it lower down all the salt would fall in one small area.

He can bloody stop "going in with" ingredients though.

Well no, the commas are important as they are seperate words.

I did not do X in any way, shape or form.

Yes, we know that.
I'm complaining about the way most people say it as if there's no comma there.

Misunderstood.

Along the lines of "on tenderhooks" or "to all intensive purposes"?

Yes,this annoys me too. As does 'chocolate bar' rather than 'bar of chocolate' and 'bag of crisps' rather than 'packet of crisps'. I've no idea why it annoys me so much!

Many years ago I listened, confused, to someone talking about 'a trans-seasonal trouser'.

DH still treasures the memory of a sale in a gentlemen's outfitters in his hometown many years ago advertised as a 'Pre-Xmas Trouser Event'.

RobertaFirmino · 20/03/2026 22:43

Bread loaf. Yes, I know you can have a meat loaf or a Madeira loaf etc. but just say 'bread', for goodness sake.

That doesn't half sound like an unfortunate soiling incident at the work Christmas do!

wishingonastar101 · 20/03/2026 12:11

on masterchef its "that is great cookery" what, no one says that... you mean "great cooking"

I thought of that too, after I had already posted. 'Cooking' is adequate and normal. Cookery, wtf is that nonsense.

You were annoyed, not "triggered" fgs. Use the term properly or not at all.

Ha! This entire thread is funny, but this is the funniest comment! I agree, btw! With all if you! Everyone is so annoying!

pineapplecrushed · 20/03/2026 22:56

Lillers · 20/03/2026 15:53

The one that’s bugging me at the minute is that they seem to all now be using “cook” as a noun: “This is a really important cook”, or “I really need to impress with the next cook.”

yes! This is like Bake Off - 'it's a really nice bake'.
Stop.

I think, given the context, that it sounds like a posh gay gang bang for men who only wear red chinos! Hilarious whichever you read it really!

I thought of that earlier but DD rang and I forgot to post!

"Your bake..."
"My bake..."
"The biggest bake so far..."

Its a fucking cake! Call it a fucking cake.

What a load of horse shit! All of my clothes are "trans-seasonal" because I can put my coat and a cardi on over them or tights/leggings on under them!

Haha! People get PAID to come up with this crap!

Well, yes, if you don't move your hand when dropping it in or, you know, stir the sauce or whatever afterwards. You don't need to drop it from a great height, you just need to move your hand and sprinkle.

Isittimeformynapyet · 20/03/2026 23:26

@ObelixtheGaul but yeah, if it's a sauce I just shove it in.

If it's cooked pasta I sprinkle from on high even if I'm going to stir it - it would really bug you 😉

Lol I have worked with chefs for years and they have all said the same thing, that they were trained to do it and why!
