How much weight do you lose for your wedding?

Getting married in 6 months. Like most brides I want to look my best. I’m fairly happy with my figure as I’m a natural hourglass (a lot of my weight is on my boobs and butt) but wouldn’t mind being a bit more toned and leaner. But I still want to look like me. I told my family I want to lost 18 pounds and they think that is insane (currently 145, 5ft 3.5). I think that’s a normal amount to lose for a bride. Nothing extreme extreme.

edit: how much weight did* you lose for your wedding

OP posts:

None but I was 9st 4lb and 5ft 7.5 tall. Took it for granted that I was naturally slim in those days.

8books · 21/03/2026 15:56

I’m a lot taller than you. I went from 9st 10lbs to 8st 10lbs before my wedding. I don’t think I’ll ever look that good again! It wasn’t intentional though, I broke my ankle 11 weeks before our wedding so didn’t go out, eat, drink, socialise and I had arms like Madonna from using crutches 😂

P.s. I’ve heard some pharmacies can now prescribe mounjaro off label if your bmi is over 25. I’d look at micro dosing that if I was getting married!

MyDarlingPombear · 21/03/2026 16:15

The only advise I would give it don’t buy a dress on the premise you will lose weight to fit into it. I made this mistake in with my first wedding and ended up with a dress that did not fit and paying over 50% of the dresses orginal price to have serious alterations.

I am getting married in September and am aiming to lose 2 stone however I’ve been on a weight loss journey for 4 years and have lost over 14 stone.

middleagedandinarage · 21/03/2026 16:21

I lost about a stone. Was the thinnest i've been as an adult when I got married. I was over weight though

DominoLover51 · 21/03/2026 16:51

@minipieshe was very small bones and I think only in her early 20s when she got married. Also probably only 5ft3. My ex and his siblings were the same build. Tbh is was a bit could destroying feeling that I could easily be heavier than my boyfriend if I didn’t watch it

Um yes it is, it’s perfectly healthy bmi for a 5ft or 5ft 1 woman.

Apologies yes it is (just) within healthy weight for 5 ft and borderline for 5ft 1.
Definitely underweight for 5 ft 3 though.

G5000 · 21/03/2026 17:13

Almost 20 pounds is a lot to lose just to look more "toned and leaner", especially when you're already a healthy weight.

OP is overweight according to her BMI.

I didn't lose weight for my wedding and really regret it. I wasn't overweight, but I look so much better when I'm proper slim and not in heading towards overweight BMI. Those photos will be around for ever.

sure but you said it wasn’t a healthy weight for any adult woman and factually it is. The op doesn’t want to aim for 7stone, she’s aiming for mid healthy bmi.

caringcarer · 21/03/2026 17:20

Maybe 2lbs because I was rushing around getting things done so not having much time for eating at lunch time. I didn't lose any weight intensionally.

cramptramp · 21/03/2026 17:20

None. I did try but failed. Had to wear some very sucky in shape wear to get the dress done up.

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 21/03/2026 17:35

None.

123teenagerfood · 21/03/2026 17:56

I did not lose any as I was slim. My friend lost 7st over 18ths and looked like a different person on the day. She hates her wedding photos as she has gained 4st back since the wedding. I really believe you should get married as you are.

Katemax82 · 21/03/2026 17:59

I lost precisely fuck all. I was a busty size 14 and aged 21 on my wedding day. I didn't get into fitness until I was 26 and had a toddler, then my husband bought a home gym and I managed to be a small size 12 and looked amazing. My best friend was slim on her wedding day but piled on loads of weight afterwards. I didn't want that to happen to me. At age 43 I'm a busty size 14 again and happy with it as I'd still fit in my wedding dress

What on earth are you talking about. Of course it’s not just if you’re obese to start.

Im talking about if you're already slim, losing 8lbs per month is a lot and would include an unhealthy level of restricted calories and poor nutrition

PropitiousJump · 21/03/2026 18:10

Enough to fit into the second hand but unworn wedding dress I bought online, which turned out to be a very ungenerous rendering of the dress size I was at the time. So much for the groom not seeing it till the day, he had to help me try it on every week to see if the tiny back buttons would fasten 😅

It was a beautiful, designer, Victorian-style silk dress I got for less than a tenth of what it would have cost new (it was being sold because seller had changed the theme of her wedding) and I'm glad I made the effort to lose the weight rather than finding something else.

PlattyCat · 21/03/2026 18:12

Stayed the exact same weight but lost three dress sizes due to excersize. Lost fat but gained muscle

OPs BMI puts her into overweight category and 8lbs per month is considered healhty, reasonable weight loss.

muddyford · 21/03/2026 19:48

Nothing.

TowerRavenSeven · 21/03/2026 20:39

I gained a bit but there were strange circumstances so I won’t go into that. Op I’m your height and currently 130 but I’d really like to lose 3-5 lb., what you’re aiming at. You will look fantastic and not skinny or gaunt. The average healthy weight for this height is 105-130. I don’t think you’re unreasonable at all.

Seriously go on mounjaro for this!!
