Man walking around outside nursery each morning

Not sure if I'm over thinking... For the last 3 months or so, every morning without fail when I drop my daughter at nursery there is a man who is walking past it, then when I come out he's doing a loop the other way back past again. The nursery is on a business park so he could just be walking to work or getting his steps in but I do find it that he seems to do constant loops at exactly the same time every morning. I've stayed and watched from the car this morning and this is his fourth loop around the nursery building again... He doesn't appear to have a uniform or lanyard of any of the businesses on the estate... Am I thinking too badly given everything in the news at the moment 🙃 would you mention it to the nursery?

Yeah I guess without seeing it, it does seem like I'm overreacting... It's just he seems shifty, I know that's so awful to say but he just gives off this weird vibe. The nursery is secure but he does look across to the fence where they are. Think it's just the more repeated back and forth which is odd when you have the whole business park to do this in 😅 Thanks for all the comments, will leave it for now as the majority seem to think I'm reading too much into it.

Every morning for 3 months?

Well if he is planning something untoward, he's playing a bloody long game 😳

Ist thought too!
Absolutely ludicrous to suggest reporting to police.
Unless of course, he is trying to interact with children, stopping and staring in windows, or similar.

But it’s not repeatedly back and forth, is it?
You pass him on your way to the nursery and pass him again on your way out, after he’s returned from whatever he was going. He’s doing a single loop journey just as you are.
You’re now making it sound like he walks back and forth only outside the nursery over and over, which doesn’t seem to be the case.

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 18/03/2026 09:58

So men are no longer allowed to walk past nurseries now without being sus?

ffs.

if it's a business park there could be any number of reasons.. he could be a grounds/site worker, a security guard in plain clothes to avoid bothering people, someone on break or before work getting their steps in, someone doing exercise on a set route

Unless you have inspected his entire person you don't know he isn't carrying ID.

From the op -

I've stayed and watched from the car this morning and this is his fourth loop around the nursery building again..

He does, in loops every 10 mins or so, it's only today I've stayed a little later to watch and noticed it's more than just the one back and forth. I would never want to accuse anyone of anything, think it's just more the length of time it's been happening.

I walk loops regularly playing pokemon go. I also used to walk a big loop of my block which is about a mile during work breaks while wfh.

It's one thing if someone is hanging out in a park by a children's play area, seemingly filming kids on their phone or something, but just walking past a building?

the fact you have purposely STAYED to WATCH this man like some creepy stalker just because he is a man walking past the building is weird. get help.

You are overthinking this to the point of paranoia.

I walk the same loop every single office day of my life, and the same time. I know there's a primary school on my route because I occasionally hear the bell ring. Beyond that, I couldn't tell you if there's a nursery, a childminder's house, or anything else that might somehow suggest I'm stalking children. All I'm interested in is getting out of the office, getting some fresh air, and adding some extra movement to my day. I don't wear a lanyard or a uniform, and people who WFH certainly won't be, so I can't even see why not 'looking' like he's working is relevant just because he's walking through a business park.

I don’t think it would do any harm at all to ask one of the staff at drop off, whether they’ve noticed someone regularly walking round the nursery. It would seem odd to me, as well.

Cyclebabble · 18/03/2026 10:02

If he is walking each morning on an industrial estate at c what 8.30 am? He is likely to be headed to work. You pick up presumably at what 4.30-5.00pm? He is likely headed home. Unless there is something else- he is slowing, staring through the fence, offering the kids sweets etc, I do not think I would be concerned.

NovemberMorn · 18/03/2026 10:03

If he is looking in the nursery grounds as he walks past, I would mention it to a carer at the nursery.
Personally I wouldn't be overly bothered, but I haven't seen him.
If you instinctively feel he is not just a man getting his steps in....it's never a bad thing to listen to your instincts.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 18/03/2026 10:04

TomatoSandwiches · 18/03/2026 08:34

I would let the police know on the non emergency line or via online report.

Yes,please report a man walking in the street.

he isn't looking in the grounds, he's glancing at the fence.

Men not allowed to look in the direction of fences now either?

so far, the rules for walking man according to this thread.. any other behaviour will get you reported to the police.

Don't walk the same route more than once past a nursery.

Don't look at the fence

But also don't not look at the fence because avoiding looking at things will make you look shifty

Until she stayed and watched him like a creepy weirdo, her only 'instinct' was finding it weird that a man walking left to right when she took her daughter in, and when she came back out was walking right to left in the other direction.

It's almost like he got somewhere, turned around and came back.

Apparently that warrants being spied on, being accused of being A MAN IN THE VICINITY OF A NURSERY ON A BUSINESS PARK, and possibly reported to the police for the offence.

The stretching on this thread would do Elastigirl proud.

GateauSVP · 18/03/2026 10:11

For goodness sake. There's an older man by me that walks for hours doing loops around the town. He's getting his exercise, completely harmless.

DH does a massive loop before work to get his steps in.

Some of you need to wind your necks in.

helpfulperson · 18/03/2026 10:11

I would start by saying morning to him. If he is up to something that contact may well be enough to make him realise he has been noticed and put him off.

'Creepy weirdo'? The name calling has started early on in this thread.🙄

I'm retired now but when I was working we were told specifically not to wear obvious ID outside the building. Mind you I did work for a government department so probably fair game...

Actually I don't. But am cynical because of my old job and knowing how many perverts there are. Keep an eye on him..
