Local resident pages on FB are full of moaners and rent-a-gobs who want the area to stay exactly as it was on a random sunny Tuesday in 1986 and can't cope with the fact that times/places change. All of last year ours was full of moaning about the school, that the building is dropping to bits, that there's no parking, no facilities, etc. Council has announced they're going to start building a brand new school, state of the art with modern facilities. Instant moaning about how we're losing a valuable field to the development (even though the site of the current school will become a field), that the building works will be noisy/messy, that it'll change the physical profile of the village, that it'll have more spaces so will attract pupils from that dreaded land of "elsewhere", that's it's going to - horror - near the co-op, and that they're going to install a zebra crossing outside of it which will "cause gridlock". Just fuck off.

Too many non-disabled people pay lip service to inclusion but then begrudge and resent it as soon as they start to think disabled people are getting magical "perks".

Men, as a class, are problematic and even the non-problematic individuals benefit from the gender inequality in our society.

Most Reform voters lack critical thinking skills and they only like Farage and his ilk because they want an excuse to be openly bigoted and hateful in the name of "free speech."

Dogs don't belong in shopping centres or cafes (assistance dogs excepted), it tends to be favoured by dickhead owners of badly trained dickhead dogs because only a dickhead would think a shop or a cafe is a good place for a dog. The majority of sensible owners know it's not the place for them and so leave them at home.

People need to stop paying lip service to the disabled

🙌🙌🙌

it was a little embarrassing how ugly our royal family was prior to Kate and Meghan marrying in and raising the standard. I secretly suspect that it made the world see Brits as somewhat unattractive by extension.

I hear ya!

I think William & Harry are the first decent looking royals in a long time. Eugenie's nice looking as well.

All kids should go to school whether they want to or not. When I was a kid we didn’t have the choice like they seem to nowadays. If you must scream do it indoors not in the garden every time the pissing sun appears for five minutes. Fuck off with trampolines. Only the deeply selfish would think they’re a good idea in the back garden of a built up area.

CrawlingBackToYou · 18/03/2026 11:13

I fucking hate sob stories, if I can turn it off I will with no remorse. Unfortunately in my work role I face having to hear it face to face sometimes (I’m sure my face betrays me as I try to fake sympathy). I have become quite skilled in cutting it dead and getting people back on track with the task at hand.

Sob stories do the exact opposite of what the person is trying to engage in me, I won’t watch TV shows where I know the sob story will be reeled out or at least i will fast forward when they come on.

I prefer people who just own their desires - I want to do this because it will achieve me that… great understand.

I want to you to make this happen for me because my great aunt aida died 300 years ago before she even knew I existed and I want to make her proud because we share a least some DNA. 🙄

Honestly accept the general public do not actually give a fuck about you, we’re all just trying to get along in the best way we can and ease our own burden not take on yours.

I’m all for the sisterhood but I would be without footwear if you rule the world.

My opinion - team sports do not belong in schools. No good comes of it. Whether you are good, bad or in the middle. Fitness and exercise is what schools should focus on.

God, yes!

School: "We don't know why girls aged 11-14 are switching off from exercise and avoiding PE, it's a real problem."

Also school: "Okay you body conscious little dumplings, get stripped down in front of 29 of your peers, put on this unflattering gym-skirt that shows half your arse and this nylon t-shirt that's going to cling to everything and is made of 100% itch. We're going out to play hockey in -1C pissing rain. Anyone who moans about it will be labelled a wet blanket weakling and made to feel like a pathetic loser."

One of my DC doesn't do team sports, it's literally written into their EHCP. Instead they go do things like yoga, pilates, dancing, climbing, skateboarding, etc. Give kids more ownership over their PE lessons instead of shoving them into football or hockey and they will develop an enjoyment of exercise/fitness.

Visitors from Up Country shouldn’t be allowed to drive in rural Devon & Cornwall. If they have to leave the A30 it should be compulsory to hire a local to drive you round, a bit like when a boat comes in port and a specialist captain with local knowledge comes aboard to guide the ship in.

People in London should not have big dogs. The park doesn't cut it for space to exercise and anyway (and more importantly) I want to picnic in it unaccosted by wet sniffy noses in me profiteroles.

My SIL blames the people with food, rather than her dog running through their picnic. If the silly picnic-ers didn’t have food out, then her precious fur baby wouldn’t approach them.

Lots of good comes from it. Life is full of competition, winning and loosing, needing to work as a team, and they learn this in school. The look on my year 5 daughters face when she scored her first goal in the school netball team was priceless, and the pride and confidence it brought her. And equally the experience of loosing the following week and as the team captain, needing to support her team to feel OK about this and explore positively what they could do better is an amazing life skill.

Some children don't have the opportunities to do these sports outside school, due to parents not being able to afford them, so having the opportunity at school is vital.

What needs to change is parents attitudes, pushy parents moaning when their little darling isn't picked every time, shouting from the sidelines etc, moaning at their child when they don't score etc.

Yes, there should be variety between team sports, dance, yoga etc. But it shouldn't be got rid of completely

Mental health may be an invisible illness but...........

People who write "mental health" when they actually mean "poor mental health" should be banned from Mumsnet.

Yesssss! We all have “mental health”—is it good mental health or poor mental health?

Swissmeringue · 18/03/2026 11:40

Drivers who have a problem with cyclists are selfish bellends. God forbid someone be getting to their destination while getting some exercise causing you to have to slow down for 15 seconds. Best ban them and shout loudly about how you pay "road tax".

Why are they 'getting stripped down'?
My girls both go in in their PE kit on PE days. Any non branded leggings/shorts which are black or navy, the school cotton PE t shirt or any royal blue plain t shirt, and royal blue plain or school logo hoodie or fleece. Pretty comfy

Yes, when they play for school teams it's a school logo skort and 'itchy' t shirt, but that's optional, they don't have to play for school teams if they don't want to

Agree with this. I hated PE and sport when I was at school but that wasn't an excuse or a reason not to do it. A bit more variety wouldn't go amiss - here everyone and everything (fundraising and donations) is funneled into football the school football team and it's so tiresome. Meanwhile my daughter's been playing tig in PE for 6 years because they've no meaningful PE set-up. Luckily we can access sport outside of school but many can't.

Totally agree, but this is an unpopular opinion that I am happy to voice publicly. I think school PE should focus on helping children to find forms of exercise that they enjoy so that they are more likely to keep up exercise as adults, with optional extra sports for the really sporty kids if they want it. In larger schools I see no problem with PE lessons being streamed as for other subjects. Do we expect those who struggle with maths to try to keep pace with the maths geeks- no. Do we make the uncoordinated child, unfit child play team sports with the ultra sporty kids and mock them when they can't keep up- obviously.

An option for those who excel at and enjoy team sports to play in school with others who enjoy it- No problem.
Forcing all children who hate it and are bad at it to play team sports with others who are good at it and get pissed off with them for being bad at it- Just no.
Encouraging children to try a variety of sports/exercise and understand the importance of fitness - great
Making children do the same 3 sports on repeat when they hate it, and forcing them to wear clothing that they are not comfortable in/isn't suitable for the weather to do so- terrible idea

School pick up/drop off brings out the biggest cunts in society. Abandoning cars everywhere as people don’t want to walk the length of their body. Same for supermarkets.

Parents letting their teenage daughters go to school wearing skirts so short that their arse cheeks are hanging out need shot! It looks tacky and only causes the wrong type of attention.

The vast majority of people who work for the council are lazy work shy twats who wouldn’t survive one day in the private sector.

Yes I wasn’t keen. I had to be dragged into reception every morning but unlike now I didn’t have a choice. Too much “choice” is given to today’s kids

usedtobeaylis · 18/03/2026 11:50

When I was in high school I didn't go a lot and then left at 15. I was childcare for my little sister so I was never made to go. I used to think it was funny and almost kind of admirable that my mum didn't make me go. Now I've got a kid at school and I see how much my mum actually let me down. I should have been in school.

A lot of those skirts aren't that short when they leave the house.
