Pink and blue jobs

I keep hearing about pink and blue jobs lately. What on earth is this nonsense and where did it come from?? I thought we moved on from this and evolved.

Influencers. One says it and they all start regurgitating it.

Hadalifeonce · 15/03/2026 12:39

Apparently, my cousins use this term. I don't really know the split. DH and I just to the jobs we're good at, or notice need doing.

MrsPinkSky · 15/03/2026 12:41

The term has been going around for years.

Mostly Princesses and Princes who 'need' the opposite sex to do shit they don't want to do themselves.

MrsPinkSky · 15/03/2026 12:43

I work with a princess who actually takes great pleasure in letting us all know she's never changed a lightbulb in her life.

If her husband isn't available, her father will come and do it.

We were having a tidy up at work once and someone handed her a binbag full of rubbish to pop in the bin.

You'd think she'd been handed a disembowelled kitten.

intrepidpanda · 15/03/2026 12:45

With that theory you must have pink men and blue women too.
But most of us are just purple?

alittleprivacy · 15/03/2026 12:53

I have no real idea what trend you're talking about but it is just basic logic to anyone honest that there are certain jobs that are more suited to one sex or the other and that people of those sexes are more naturally drawn to. That doesn't mean that there aren't some exceptions but overall, there are jobs that will always be more suited to men, and others more suited to women.

And not we absolutely have not evolved beyond the basics of sexed biology, nor will we. That's not how evolution works and pretending that sex differences aren't real and that we no longer have to base our understanding of the world on them, has led to all sorts of unhinged bullshit that has destroyed tens of thousands of lives and we're going to be decades untangling ourselves from.

Obviously modern technology has made it so that sex differences are less important in many aspects of modern life, but that doesn't work across the board. In the work of the laptop classes, sex doesn't make a lot of difference. In work that requires physical strength it does. In work that requires care of the most vulnerable, especially very young children, it does.

Sounds like the manosphere shit. Just watching Louis Theroux with these toxic morons.

Canyonroadjack · 15/03/2026 13:02

You are over thinking it, in my case at least. We have pink and blue jobs. But blue jobs include cooking and cleaning, pink jobs include bins and DIY, they are just the jobs we do best and how we divide and conquer to get everything done.

Springisspringingnow · 15/03/2026 13:04

You have totally depressed me OP.

I had no idea this was a thing.

Why are some women derermind to take us back to the 1950s ?
Why are they determind to reject equality?

If this is down to "influencers" my opinion of them has gone down even further and I didn't think that was possible.
And as for the brain dead sheep who actually follow these influencers and parrot stuff like this words actually fail me.

CoastalCalm · 15/03/2026 13:04

Ha we use this term but as tongue in cheek and not outside of our conversations - bins are a blue job etc but the reality is the jobs get done by whoever can be arsed

Lambington · 15/03/2026 13:06

Theresa May was promoting this shit when she was prime minister. Its just good old fasioned sexism.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 15/03/2026 13:14

We say this but as a joke. Basically any job I don’t want to do is a “blue job” and therefore DH’s responsibility, same for DH and “pink jobs”.
For example, we need to dig up an extremely large and very prickly gooseberry bush in the garden. That is a blue job.

Ontobetterthings · 15/03/2026 17:55

Yeah I was going to watch my son at his sport and was told its a blue job. Wtaf! Bizarre.
