I don't have any neighbours as such. I live on my own private estate.

You may consider me "undesirable" but you will never have to concern yourself with my presence in your little "cul-de-sac"

InterestedDad37 · 14/03/2026 01:04

Thinking about it, since 1989, I've had 6 addresses, and in all of those, I've known my neighbours, and would have trusted them to take delivery of my drugs illicit items French cheese parcels.

This has to be a joke.

MarxistMags · 14/03/2026 01:40

Are you all insane ? It's a parcel not an Atom Bomb.
I don't mind at all taking in a neighbour's parcel. If you're not at home then make a safe place for it to be left in.
It's nice to be, ahem, neighbourly.
I also take my neighbour's bins in. Is that allowable ?

I agree, I take in parcels sometimes too - as you say, it's nice to be neighbourly.
Had about 3 the other day, joked to DH "looks like the bloody parcel depot in here this afternoon" 😁

Tetchypants · 14/03/2026 01:47

Maybe it should be the case that if you want things leaving on your doorstep in plain view of passers by, you accept liability if the parcel is stolen. I don’t think it’s fair that the delivery firms should have to cover the cost of missing parcels, if the customer has taken that risk.

What? This is batshit 😂
What do you mean, you " confiscate parcels"? What are you, the Parcel Police?!
It sounds like you open some of them too, as they "intrigue you?"

nomas · 14/03/2026 01:58

Czerwonitz · 13/03/2026 22:22

if I were in whenever you were delivering I would be unemployed and unable to buy the things to be delivered

Do not leave my private shit with randoms and don't ask me to take the private shit or randoms

No one wants to be constantly re-delivering your shit for your £3.99 delivery fee for your fast fashion tat.

Either be home for your shit or get it delivered to your work address or a Click and Collect to a shop. You can’t get it on your doorstep every time.

You are expecting DHL type service for your measly fee. The first time you’re doorstep robbed you’ll be complaining to the shop.

MarxistMags · 14/03/2026 02:17

@BernardNW I hope your neighbours hang their washing out in an orderly fashion with colour coordinated pegs ?

Missey85 · 14/03/2026 02:26

Their not allowed to here in Australia if nobodys home it goes back to the post office and they leave a card to collect it from there 💕

My heart sinks now when I have a parcel from RM. It takes all day, from 7am to 7pm and often half way through the day I will suddenly get an email to tell me it's out for delivery....
So I duly sit indoors if lucky enough to see the unexpected email, changing my plans occasionally, for it not to arrive.

I never thought I'd ever say this - Evri are better than RM around my neck of the woods. Sorry female postie!

I don’t get this. RM parcels are tracked from the time they’re received you get email and text updates, then you can the log in to their website and see exactly where it was last scanned in.

The text tells you when it’s coming in a 2 hour slot - it’s only as long as 2 hours because it’s with usually with your postie on their usual round so it’s not as time specific as a delivery driver. I don’t understands why you’re not getting this.

Isthateveryonethen · 14/03/2026 03:50

I don’t take parcels in for anyone. I have an intercom system and can see who’s there. If I’m not expecting anything, I don’t open.

Treaclewell · 14/03/2026 04:40

I had two parcels I wasn't expecting. I was in. The bell did not ring. The postie ignored my cupboard with its notice about putting deliveries in it, scrawled next door's number on a red card and then another number round the corner and put the card in the middle of a heap of junk mail. When I attempted to collect the parcels there was no one in. There has been no one there since November 28th. I have complained to RM. I don't know who sent them, what they are or why 37 took them in, knowing they were going,
The postie has continued not ringing, but does use the cupboard.

It costs a fortune to keep redelivering each time. If no safe place is specified we try the neighbours.

Why not take it back to the depot and give the option of collection or redelivery?

ilovesooty · 14/03/2026 02:51

Whoever he is I feel sorry for his wife.

Ann. Yes she's long suffering but has started an emotional affair with Paul, their new neighbour.

GreyfriarsJobbies · 14/03/2026 06:33

The amazing world of MN strikes again! I don't want to be neighbourly with my neighbours and live in a community because...SEX OFFENDERS. SEX OFFENDERS EVERYWHERE!

Everywhere I've ever lived my neighbours have taken parcels for me and I've taken parcels for then and it's been no trouble whatsoever. If for whatever reason it is such a problem then it really is your problem and you should either be sure to be in when it's delivered, go out and get whatever it is yourself, or live in splendid isolation in the middle of nowhere.

Stand outside your house all day until someone comes home?

IdentityCris · 14/03/2026 06:45

Czerwonitz · 13/03/2026 22:19

Most of them leave it on my doorstep WHICH IS WHAT I WANT

I don't want the haunting stress of sheepishly going around to my neighbours to get it

Aren't you concerned about parcels getting stolen from your doorstep?

This is really so easily resolved - just put a note on your door telling people where to leave parcels if you're not in.

Sartre · 14/03/2026 06:49

I was asked to take a parcel in a few years ago for the NDN so did and he never came around for it so I went to deliver it to him and tried a few times but he wouldn’t answer the door! In the end I had to give it back to the postie. I’ve never offered to help with a parcel since, even now I live elsewhere- it isn’t worth the potential hassle.

Sounds quite an entitled approach. So you expect delivery companies to run round at their own expense just because it suits you.

How about if you're not in they return the item to sender instead. That way they haven't left it with your neighbour or impacted your ability to work

It's a bit early, so my mental faculties are about 2 mugs of tea short of fully functioning, but this is pisstake, isn't it?

Bloody excellent, too!

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 14/03/2026 06:59

Totally agree, I refuse to take my neighbours as they can take weeks to collect. Last week amazon had a few parcels of mine and gave me my neighbours as well without saying anything.. well guess who still hasnt took their parcel! AngryAngryAngry infuriates me!
