WIBU to keep my child home from nursery today?

My child’s nursery received a threat yesterday on social media. I don’t know exactly what it was as police have told the nursery not to say, they have concluded it was a hoax….

They went in to lockdown yesterday afternoon, I was already on my way to get them at this point. They also went in to a partial lock down a few days ago after other schools in the area received threats. I’ve sent them to nursery as normal until now/after that.

I don’t want to send them, siblings will
go to school as normal. Nursery havesaid police will be in the area but not knowing the threat has made me more worried not less.

Posting in AIBU for some quick responses. WIBU to keep him home? I will have to cancel work and will loose money/may not have a happy client but my heads going to be elsewhere anyway. I said I’d sleep on it but it’s still bothering me this morning. There’s nothing about it anywhere that I can see online - they threats received earlier in the week to other schools were well reported.

I’d keep them home. Of course a threat to a nursery will make parents worry.

Are you in the North West? I work in a school in the area where there was a lot of drama on Mon. In reality two schools received hoax emails and some other schools went into full lockdown and others like ours just stayed aware of dangers as per. The kids knew nothing about it but the parents caused a lot of drama. Ours has been proven as a hoax.

I would do whatever I felt made me feel less anxious and more safe.

Yes, I’d hate to let anybody who’s doing things to try and scare parents win and my LO will be totally unaware but not knowing more details is really bothering me.

Hi lovely, I think our kids go to the same nursery by the sounds of it! Not to be too outing, but is it a bee related name?
Anyways, we got the emails and we’re keeping her off today. I know it is just a threat from some weirdo online but just uncomfortable with the actual nursery being tagged. Xx

How do you mean the parents caused drama? Surely they were understandably scared?

Oh OP that's awful! I'm a worrier so would be keeping DC home today.

Favouritefruits · 13/03/2026 09:00

Well i’dprobably keep mine home if I was you but really today will most likely be the safest day to take your child in as police will be there and everyone will be in guard mode!

mindutopia · 13/03/2026 09:11

I’d keep her home. I’d want to know a bit more about new security measures being put in place. A ‘hoax’ is simply an attack that didn’t happen. No one can really know what someone’s intentions are. If they were unstable enough yesterday, they’re still unstable today. I’d want the staff to have time to review their processes and decide what changes might need to be made.
