Good name for a pub quiz - not a 'team' exactly...

So having moved house I have nothing in the fridge and popped out for some dinner earlier. Then went by my lovely local for a glass of wine... and it's pub quiz night. Usually I would just bugger off early, but friends and I have been talking about doing this for ages, so I kind of want to trial it out. Also a very nice man at the next table has brought in a massive map of Swansea in 1897 and my house is on there! So I sort of committed to staying... and will be switching to Coca Cola in about an hour so as not to be fuzzy. I have no expectations of winning, of course, but what's a good name for a solo pub quiz player? Anything other than Norma No Mates! Ideas?!

Ah if I was nearby I would join you (I'm not, none of the pub quizzes near me are on a Wednesday!)

Bad quiz etiquette of the other teams not to invite you to join one of them though, if we saw someone on their own and we had space we would definitely offer. That's pretty much how our current team was formed!

Assuming OP won't be back until quiz is over - the one rule of pub quizzing is it's a phone free hobby.

How does it work?

Name is an amalgam of Pyongyang, capital of N.Korea due to my mild obsession with defector autobiogs and yes.....Ptangyangkipperbang!

Sunday evening quizzes are usually run by Ben Knight and you can get tickets at Smartphone Quiz Knights. Weekdays and Saturdays are MB Quizzes. All are pay to play and you can win prize money but thats not why I play!

Using Zoom and either Redtooth quiz app or Speedquizzing app. So two devices are needed, I use laptop and phone.

Quiz tickets are usually about £6 and you can win cash but although i have won, thats not why I play. Ben (who runs SUnday nights and often Fridays too) hosted my 50th at my local pub and it was amazing!

Its all done online via zoom and a phone and you can be in a team in your home or play alone. The only rule is "one device per household" so you couldnt play against your partner for example (there are exceptions to this but they are few and for specific reasons).

Hello! Sorry for the delay, I've been handing my old flat back to the landlord today, so busy, busy.

In the end I came second - which was a bit mad! My downfall was a question about two sports where people 'go backwards' - I put rugby and ice skating. But obviously the BALL goes backwards in rugby... should have put rowing or backstroke really. But as it's the Six Nations finale on Saturday I am a bit rugby-focused at the moment!

@PlumPlumb I did wonder if people might invite me to join their group, but to be fair I was sitting in a cwtch, so a bit out of the way. And totally right about putting all of my devices away - couldn't stand to be accused of cheating!

@PyongyangKipperbang Tell me more about this online quiz please! During the pandemic I used to do a weekly online pub quiz for friends via Zoom - it was great fun but blimey also hard work to do all the prep! I quite fancy taking part in the Sunday night one this week - is there a link or something please?
