Would love to keep our family home, but can’t afford to.

IHT and stamp duty are fuckers. We would need to work for 2.5 years to earn the upfront tax, assuming no other outlay on anything such as food.

We had to sell my mum's house to part fund her care, but if we hadn't and one of the three of us had wanted it, none of us would have been able to afford to buy the others out.

Yes it's sad selling a family home we'd all grown up in, but I don't think it's unfair.

Sell your current home. Use your Inheritance get a mortgage for the balance. Or do your siblings also want to purchase it?

I wouldn’t have to pay stamp duty on my third. I would want to live in it. Upfront fees/taxes is the issue, plus additional stamp duty as have a home (although can get that back when mine sells). Houses come up
once in a blue moon on parent’s street. I don’t even know if it’s been overvalued as the houses are all different. Someone with money would probably rebuild it, but I’d be happy as is. Houses on my street are less desirable!!! It’s just a wrench. We’ve spent a lot of time there and it adds to the loss. It feels more like home than my actual home which probably sounds daft.
