To think Middle East war will "blow over" like Ukraine

First of all... Yes i know Ukraine as a country is still devestated by fighting. I am not that naive.

However, when Russia started the war in Ukraine we immediately thought this would start WW3 and everything looked horrendous. Ie; refugees fleeing to Europe, the UK government and even social media pushing for host families in UK etc... the Ukraine flags flying in the streets etc...

Then 6 months later - nothing. It just came a part of the background noise to us in the UK as news. The petrol prices and gas prices came down gradually. Life got back to normal for the UK citizens.

AIBU for thinking/hoping this will happen again with the Middle East conflict? Praying price increases will be for as shorter time as possible and that inflation and interest rates dont rise 😪

There have been many many many wars since the Second World War.

it takes quite a lot for wars to spread across the whole world and honestly the political and militiary situation at the moment is not likely to result in a world war.

the only power that is actually strong enough to stand up to America is China and they have no intention of doing so.

I thought your post title was sarcastic and this was going to be a post about the war continuing for years and years rather than be over in a few weeks like Trump claims. And have lasting economic impact. That’s the similarity with Ukraine and more likely than WW3

Yes, I think you are broadly correct in that it is more likely to calm down than to expand outwards to a world wide conflict.

However, I would just add that outside of a few media bubbles and a few very dramatic people - I personally I haven't met anyone who genuinely thought that this or Ukraine would become a world war.

I think most people's fears (that didn't happen) were more grounded. Most of us feared Ukraine would fall quickly and entirely... and now most people fear the wider consequences of an Iran that is lashing out, and the potential regional/global unrest/terrorism/attacks etc that could last for a while. Both are valid fears, neither are world destruction/world wars.
