Should I book a Cyprus holiday for June this year?

Just that really. We’re about to book a holiday for June - me, dh and 2 adult dcs. We’ve been to Cyprus a few times and have always fancied a particular hotel and had decided this was the year. But with the Middle East situation, would you risk it?

Absolutely not. There’s plenty of other places where there isn’t such a violent conflict.

Are you joking? This has to be a rage bait post.

Obviously not

ihaterunning · 09/03/2026 10:08

Sorry thread police, maybe I should have worded it wibu to book a holiday in Cyprus? There have been tensions in the area for years, but people still go. Hopefully (for everyone) this will blow over quickly, but actually nowhere in the Med is that far away. Anyhow, thanks for your input

This has only just started though, so assuming it will have blown over in the next 3 months is naive

I’d post again in the holiday thread. Ask about family holidays to other places (not Cyprus). Put in your budget and requirements and I think you’ll get some helpful replies. I wouldn’t go to anywhere with any unrest or near the Middle East. I don’t believe this will be over any time soon.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 09/03/2026 10:28

Most Mediterranean countries are actually further away from Iran than Cyprus is but the relevant consideration is that most of them don't have an obvious target like Akrotiri. It's our (British) presence there that made them a target.
This war is not something that will blow over in time for you to go off on your Happy Holidays and I hope the government will be strongly advising people not to go there. They have enough to worry about without having to keep holiday makers safe.

Choose somewhere else.

Good lord. Have you seen the news?

Exactly and much better put than my post.

Why do you insist on calling me "thread police" @ihaterunning when your own action of posting in here is getting you nothing but unhelpful replies?

post in the Holiday forum and you'll get a better outcome!

Shinyhappyapple · 09/03/2026 10:50

I wouldn’t. If I really wanted to go there, I would maybe hold fire on booking anything now to see whether everything has calmed down by that point, and if so then book last minute.

watchingthishtread · 09/03/2026 10:55

No.

Riverflow6 · 09/03/2026 10:55

Only a fool would

Strawberryfruitstarburst · 09/03/2026 10:56

I wouldn’t and I’m not a worrier.

We're already prebooked for May 17th, just have to wait it out, I don't think we would have booked, had we owned a crystal ball prior.
That being said we are still going if its not cancelled by Tui.
Feel so sorry for the people of Cyprus, this is going to impact the tourism industry a lot!
