To think the BBC has become a mouthpiece for Reform and will help win them the next election

Previously posted in politics but now posting in AIBU for more traffic.
Watching Laura K this morning shamelessly talking over everything Yvette Cooper was saying and then interview Robert Jenrick as if he were a key member of the (proper) shadow cabinet and barely challenge him at all. Why was he even given airtime this morning? I think she and Chris Mason, particularly, are on the wrong side of history and will regret it when Farage gets in, abolishes the BBC and they have to beg for jobs at GB News. The excessive amount of time the BBC gives to Reform and their endless criticism of Labour is so blatant.

I think it is particular to parts of the BBC, such as Question Time and Laura Kuennsberg's show.

I don't think Reform will win the next election, but the BBC will mean that they end with more seats than if the questioning was challenging to them. And if their response was to boycott the BBC, then the BBC should say so and empty chair them. If they threaten legal action, publish the threatening letters.

Daysgo · 08/03/2026 10:57

Yabu. Why would they not interview opposition. Its good to interview all sides..

Re Labour.. how could anyone not criticise them- look at the u turns, the incompetence, the unwillingness to address properly grooming gangs etc... ?

You sound like the Maga cultists protesting about accurate reporting of Trump tbh!!

Hazlenuts2016 · 08/03/2026 11:00

@Daysgowhat about Jenrick's failures when he was in government? His incompetence that created a lot of the crap Labour have had to deal with. Why does she adopt such a delicate style of interviewing with him and not allow Cooper to speak?

Agreed. They consistently give airtime to Reform that their performance doesn't merit. The 2024 election coverage was particularly bad as they massively over estimated the number of seats Reform would win, then made loads of fuss of their 5 seats blanked while blanking the Greens who got 4.

MissyB1 · 08/03/2026 11:04

Kuennsberg is practically a member of Reform now surely?! She seems to want to be around them and listen to them all the time!

Hazlenuts2016 · 08/03/2026 11:05

@letsallchant and they've barely challenged them on this Trump style election stealing allegation even though they were more than 4k votes off winning.

Hazlenuts2016 · 08/03/2026 11:06

@LlynTegid I hope you're right about them not winning because I really value the NHS and know that would be the first thing to go

OP posts:
Hazlenuts2016 · 08/03/2026 11:11

@MissyB1 absolutely. She switched from Conservatives to Reform in a heart beat.

Clubbiscuit · 08/03/2026 11:14

Absolutely. If they were being fair, they’d have the Greens in far more. They made Reform, they supported Reform and now we will all pay the price. It’s disgusting.

LoveofSevenDolls · 08/03/2026 11:15

Laura Kunnesberg, Chris Mason..are in it to create a controversy, grow and audience, feed into their podcast's, articles and so on. Laura also loves Boris Johnson. Iv'e stopped watching because its all to create drama rather than present facts and I would say BBC news is right-leaning (you only have to look at the background of those in control).

Hazlenuts2016 · 08/03/2026 11:15

@Clubbiscuit it makes no sense as Reform will take down the BBC at the earliest opportunity

Is this for real??!! The BBC is a left-wing organisation. It is a mouthpiece for the metropolitan liberal left and always has been.

That’s what I always think too.

Whaaaattt? How could that possibly be true? I don't think I have heard any BBC news programme say anything favourable towards anything left of centre for about 20 years. And all the top news management are all Tory donors appointed by Johnson.

Do you ever watch the BBC or is your set tuned 24/7 to GBNews?

Robertplantgoddess · 08/03/2026 11:36

There is a bit in Geoff norcotts book (he is a comedian who happily votes conservative and is sidelined by other comedians for this) who explains that when he is on talk shows every party will be asked but reform say yes straight away whilst greens will either delay answering or expect it to be ok to say yes last minute and by then the show is planned.
Don't know how true it is but it seems possible.

Ireolu · 08/03/2026 11:46

Laura fawned/fawns over Boris Johnson. Now she does the same with reform MPs. As someone said earlier as with Chris Mason the end agenda is self promotion and creating drama in my opinion.

You’ve echoed my thoughts @Hazlenuts2016. Kuenssberg’s interview with Cooper was a disgrace - talking over her, shouting her down, almost shrieking at one point. Totally unprofessional. And why Jenrick? The amount of coverage Reform’s getting is absurd.

unlikelymango · 09/03/2026 14:34

Absurd and delusional take. The BBC are rabidly far-left.

GingerBeverage · 09/03/2026 14:40

Perhaps they can interview a drag queen about it.

You quite clearly haven’t seen its output recently. I suggest you watch yesterday’s Kuenssberg.

FunnyOrca · 09/03/2026 15:20

ABSOLUTELY!

I am so glad it is not just me thinking this.

I’m really hoping reform don’t win, but if they do “it was the bbc what won it”.

Lambington · 09/03/2026 15:34

YANBU. The green party have as many MPs as Reform (actually elected ones - Tory defectors dont count until they have a by election).
Not to mention Caroline Lucas being in the commons for YEARS while Reform Brexit UKIP. were nowhere.
The BBC has been right leaning for years and is getting worse.
