AIBU to want an app that tracks glue ear symptoms for GP proof?

YABU/YANBU poll please! My 2yo's had repeated 'ear infections' dismissed by the GP as nothing serious, but I suspect glue ear (muffled hearing, bad sleep, not responding to his name). I've started logging daily patterns to build a case for referral, but it's a faff. AIBU to think an app that auto-summarises (non-medical, just insights to discuss) would be a game-changer? Would you use one with weekly reports + GP prep notes for a small monthly fee? Just brainstorming — love your thoughts! 🙏

Speak to your health visitor instead. They will refer you to audiology.

I wouldn’t take no for an answer regarding a referral to audiology. GP’s are often useless regarding ear issues - their training isn’t sufficient. Audiology can do testing to establish what the problem is that the GP cannot do.

But to answer your question… No I wouldn’t

HiFalutinFolDeRols · 07/03/2026 12:58

Can't you just write it down on a piece of paper or in your notes app? I'm not sure I'd pay for "GP prep notes" as it's hardly difficult to do myself.

If a parent is concerned about their child's hearing, I refer them to audiology (GP), assuming no wax seen. you shouldn't need to fight.put the request in writing and if refused make a complaint asking for the reasons for the refusal.

I think Chat GPT could do this

What is it with all the odd, niche app suggestions on here recently?!
No, you don't need an app for everything. Sometimes pen and paper does the job just fine!

I use Claude AI (much the same as Chat GPT) to log food intake, it’s great, I just dictate what I’ve had and it keeps a record, even makes it into a nice “log book”. I imagine it would do what you’re asking too.

No, I wouldn't pay for it. I too would just use a pen and paper!

I suffered as a child and it was almost monthly I'd be at the out of hours GP (abroad). The pounding in me ear sounded like someone walking up lighthouse stairs with metal boots on. I always wanted my mum to pour lemonade in my ear, because I imagined that the bubbles would clear it. It was awful. I had a grommet at 4 and don't think I've ever had an ear infection since!
