Minor injuries

I think I have some glass in my foot, I can’t walk on it properly. Do I want to see if it works its way out or should I go to minor injuries. It feels like a waste of time but I can’t bear much weight on that foot.

Minor injuries.

How much glass is in there? Have you got any of it out?

I’m sure I went to hospital with glass in my foot as a young child.

Soak it in a bowl of warm salt water for a good 20 mins then cover it with a plaster and a dab of Savlon or similar to keep it soft- see if it comes to the surface by tomorrow.

Hardly any I don’t think. There a cut that is about 1cm, not wide, but over the day it’s become quite painful to walk and for the size cut it is it doesn’t equate! Which is why it feels like an over reaction!

Can you get somebody to remove it for you with tweezers? Personally I’d have a go at that before wasting an evening at hospital. I think I’ve done this twice, both times successfully.

You can buy an ointment that draws out splinters. I went to minor injuries with glass in my foot. It was deep and despite some digging they couldn’t get hold of it. I applied the ointment at home and a plaster and two days later it popped out. There was a route out though dug by the doctor.

For me if it’s painful to walk on I’d see minor injuries if only to check that you have all the glass out and get it bandaged.

If you are lucky enough to have a local minor injuries unit i would surely this is what they are for

anonocakey · 06/03/2026 19:07

If you go to minor injuries make sure it has x-ray open at the weekend. Some don't and you'll need x-rays to confirm it's in there and the exact location

Talkingfrog · 06/03/2026 22:23

Minor injuries if you have one. If necessary they can x ray to check there is no glass remaining.

As someone who was hit in the head with a glass as a teenager, I doubt it will come out alone, I was still pulling pieces out a couple of years later.

The hospital left me sat for hours in a surprisingly empty a and e I suppose they thought I'd been fighting, I hadn't, stupidly mucking about after a few drinks, so I left with it untreated

CatchTheWind1920 · 24/03/2026 09:24

@TheGingerPiglet how did this turn out, op? I think I have a tiny shard of glass in foot too but it's very small and I can't see anything. Very similar to you, it hurts to walk on

MildlyAnnoyed · 24/03/2026 09:29

I’d go to minors. They’ll have it out for you & it’ll be over & done with.
