To travel 50 minutes to Lostock High?

Any parents here with kids at Lostock High? We’ve randomly been allocated a place but it’s so far away from us and don’t know much about the school. Does your kid enjoy going there? Thanks everyone!

I suggest you do a google for the most recent Ofsted report and check the Trafford league tables, i think you'll find it down near the bottom :(
If I lived 50minutes away in Trafford I'd be appealing, assuming you live closer to one of the much better high schools?

If it's Lostock High in Stretford as PP assumes (as did I) then yes, appeal. Didn't even realise Trafford was big enough for anyone to have to travel 50 mins to get anywhere and I live next door!

I would look at other schools & appeal/get on wait lists. I had a friend whose son was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. Appeals got them nowhere but the waitlist did & in august he got offered a place at his first school.
You’ll have to accept Lostock but don’t panic yet. I’m not sure how many schools you can waitlist for though tbh. I spoke to admissions yesterday at Trafford & the guy was amazing so give them a call.

@CharlotteFlaxIts probs not the distance it will be the traffic that makes it take so long It’s ridiculous 🤣

MiddleAgedDread · 04/03/2026 14:23

oh if you live Altrincham / Timperley / Hale or even Sale Moor I can imagine it would easily take 50minutes to get to Lostock High on public transport @CharlotteFlax it's not even near a metro station

CarrotVan · 04/03/2026 14:26

It’s not got a great reputation at all. It’s had lots of interventions over the years but has struggled to improve. Get on the waiting list for somewhere closer to home or with better transport options

BigFishLittleFishy · 04/03/2026 16:05

Thanks all! Yes, it’s the one in Stretford and yeah 50 minutes on public transport and around 30 minutes to drive - wouldn’t be able to drive and you’re right with traffic it could take much longer 😞doesn’t sound like the best option for us so will take the advice here and hope for the best
