It’s not really iabu. But this evening before we went to bed, I was getting some painkillers from the bathroom ( injured knee ). My DP has ADHD, and asked me to bring him some Elvanse from the bathroom too, to keep it at the bedside table for the morning. He has early start going to London conference this morning. I bloody took his Elvanse instead on my painkillers! I literally realised the mistake as soon as I handed him my painkillers. I never been able to just make myself sick, so had to keep it down. I managed to sleep for about an hour but I’m widely awake now and buzzing. There is no way I can fall asleep now! I feel like getting hoover out and some cleaning products and start cleaning the house but everyone is asleep. I don’t know how long this will last but I have get up at 6pm, get children to school and then I have full day at work 9am-6.30pm. I’m so worried I’m going to crash halfway through the day! What should I do? Is there anything I can do? I don’t normally drink coffee but I think I will have to start today as I have to get through the day and it will be tough with only one hour sleep😩

Whoa! What dose?

Is your blood pressure generally all right?

Gymnopedie · 04/03/2026 02:34

There really isn't anything you can do at this point. Either push through as best you can, it will only be one day. Or is calling in sick an option? Because truthfully you're not really well if you're full of a drug that's not for you.

Elvanse has a long half life of 10 - 11.5 hours. That mean that after that time you have half as much in your system as you did at the peak blood concentration just after you'd taken it. For the people who need it that's a benefit because it only needs to be taken once a day. But it's not good news for you, unless you count the fact that you might still be buzzing all day tomorrow (today) and the crash may not hit until after you get home from work.

It’s 50mg and my BP is normally fine but I can tell my HR is higher than normal

Can you count your HR for one minute and let us know what it is?
are you experiencing any palpitations or fluttering in chest ?

I took it about 11pm, tried to go straight to sleep but woke up about an hour later. I’m just worried that from midday, when the drugs stop working, I will stop functioning due to lack of sleep. My DP suggested taking another one in the morning to get me through the day but that’s definitely not what I will do

To start at 50mg even on a slow release is hardcore. You’ll be ok but if you’ve ever wanted to write a novel or similar, this would be a good time.

Drink orange or grapefruit juice - it will help take down the effects

My HR is 89 lying in bed. I will check my blood pressure later but I reckon it will be higher than normal

That’s not as bad as I was expecting so that’s reassuring, orange juice is a good shout as the acidity can dilute the effects

Yes I definitely feel like I can clean the whole house, write a novel and probably go for a run ( if I didn’t injure my knee ) before I wake the children up!
