To wish that Global Radio would just drop their Cash Call

I am sick of hearing about it, three times an hour at least. I assume it's a money spinner and they make more from the calls than they give away but I'm at a point where I just want to chuck the radio out of the window. I am so bored of it.

And to add insult to injury they've now joined with ITV to promote the Birthday Draw so in and amongst the push for the Cash Call we get promos for that too.

The ads can get tedious anyway (especially the Octopus Energy ones) but I accept that's how they are funded. These two draws though they've pushed it (and me) to its limits.

Please Global - make it stop. AIBU?

They can stop after I’ve won. 😁

I wish the BBC had a decent music station our car radio could pick up because I get tired of adverts and inane chatter.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/03/2026 17:54

Is changing stations an option ?

ChopstickNovice · 02/03/2026 17:55

I hate it too. It seems like it's on all the time!! More cash call plugs than songs!

Well, you have a choice of Magic Adverts, Mellow Adverts, Smooth Adverts, Absolute Adverts, Gold Adverts, Classic Adverts ... 😆

Mumofmarauders · 02/03/2026 21:56

Oh my gosh yes! It’s so annoying.

BlueMum16 · 02/03/2026 22:15

I listen to radio one all day until Jamie Lang is on and then it's time for Amazon Music.

Can't be doing with ads.

JustGiveMeReason · 02/03/2026 22:26

I'm with you 100%.

I used to listen to Heart, but switched to Smooth after Heart were just continually trying to persuade listeners to gamble in their 'cash give away'.

Smooth (and I presume all Global stations) are now doing the same - as you say - incessantly.

I'd very much welcome any recommendations of any 'easy listening' stations that don't do this.

birdpoo · 02/03/2026 22:29

Radio one all the way. Better music and no ads.

naymecchanger · 02/03/2026 22:32

That Octopus Energy advert drives me insane!

Onemanwenttomo · 02/03/2026 22:40

Boggles my mind that radio still exists. Spotify shuffles my playlists and adds new music if I want it to so it doesn't get stale. Podcasts provide chat if I want it and there's daily news ones if I desperately need to listen to current affairs.

Each to their own but I can't stand the insane presenter chatter and ads.

Same here! The music isn't really to my taste and at 52 I'm definitely not their target demographic but I'd rather tolerate that than ads, jingles and daft games like this one.
I actually like most of the new crop of Radio 1 presenters, I generally listen until the end of Matt & Molly before switching off.
