Accidentally booked tickets a Bricktastic Lego event on Mother's day

My DD (13) is really into Lego so I booked tickets to Bricktastic event where people look at and sell Lego. It was £10 for 3 of us but I didn't realise til after I booked that it was on Mother's Day.
I have not told my daughter about it and I would rather have a lie in (it is at 10.30) and go to a late lunch which is booked for 14.30.
AIBU to just not go or am I being a bit mean.

I mean, doing something with your daughter on Mother’s Day is sort of the point, isn’t it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not that I ever plan anything or even know when it is.

LoveBluey · 02/03/2026 10:33

Personally I would still go. 10.30 isn’t that early and sounds like it would be a nice thing to do together before your lunch.

Mulledjuice · 02/03/2026 10:35

Can you swap your lie-in to another day? Or get another adult (is there another parent on the scene?) To take DD while you have time to yourself before lunch?

Backpain2026 · 02/03/2026 10:36

Sounds like a great thing to do, fun activity and then out for a late lunch.

10.30 is not an early start.

But if you really want a long.lie in one day. Then just lie in on the Saturday

Sprogonthetyne · 02/03/2026 10:40

Sorry but you are been a bit mean, spend the day with your kid then have a lovely later lunch.

user2848502016 · 02/03/2026 10:47

Have your lie in on Saturday instead? Your 13 year old can bring you breakfast in bed

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 02/03/2026 10:48

Why wouldn't you want to do something enjoyable with your daughter on Mothers Day? My favourite think about Fathers day is that DD actually wants to spend time with me doing something enjoyable!

ExtraOnions · 02/03/2026 10:48

Last year I went to a Gaming Market with DD in the morning, then we went to Lunch. Lovely day

somanychristmaslights · 02/03/2026 10:49

You can have lay ins on other days apart from mothers days.

Stade197 · 02/03/2026 10:49

I would go and make DD happy if it's something she is really into, most kids that age just want to sit and stare at screens all day so I think it's lovely she has a hobby she is in to

A new softplay is opening up in my local area on mother's day so I'm taking my DS (4) and will spend the morning listening to a bunch of hyperactive kids running around but if DS is happy then I'm happy

Catlady007007 · 02/03/2026 10:55

Forget about it being 'Mother's Day' which is a load of tripe anyway.
You'd prefer to stay in bed than do an activity with your teen.
Why didn't you just book tickets for your teen and her Dad to go? Whats stopping you doing what you want and your daughter and husband doing their own thing?

Whitengold · 02/03/2026 10:58

A family day out seems like what Mother's Day is for to me.

Well don't go then. You've already made it clear you would rather have the lie in and lunch. Surely you can try and swap the tickets for another day

OnlyReplyToIdiots · 02/03/2026 11:01

Just to confirm, you are complaining about spending time with your children on Mother's Day, and that something is at 10:30?

scottishgirl69 · 02/03/2026 11:04

According to the Bricktastic Facebook page their event is over for 2026 so assume it's a different lego festival

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 02/03/2026 11:05

I’m watching my kids go karting on Mother’s Day.
We’ll have a nice day, they’ll have a great time then we’ll get some lunch - nowhere fancy. I’m really looking forward to it!

ACIGC · 02/03/2026 11:06

I’d go and do something with your kid. I assume you’re one of those princesses who expects the world to revolve around Mother’s Day and your birthday.

goz · 02/03/2026 11:08

Why can’t you just lie in bed on the Saturday?
I’m not sure why you can’t still have a late lunch together either?

ainsleysanob · 02/03/2026 11:16

Why can’t you just not have lie in and spend the day with your child (the actual reason you’re a mother) doing something they’ll love?

scottishgirl69 · 02/03/2026 12:18

You can have a lie in and lunch any day. My family never did Mother's day. My mums birthday is very close to it and she's never been a fan of it. I do things for her all year round - the notion that you can only be spoiled and have a lie in because it's a special day seems a bit odd to me. You can go to lunch the day before or the week before if this is something your daughter would really like

LittlePetitePsychopath · 02/03/2026 12:22

Bricktastic is in Feb; it's over.

But to be honest, I'd still go to whatever LEGO thing you've booked. 10:30 isn't crazily early and surely the point of Mother's Day is to spend it with your kids. You're much more likely to have a lovely lunch if your daughter is happy. I'd go.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 02/03/2026 12:23

Just have a lie in another day? Do you need worshipped specifically on Mother’s Day?

IwishIcouldconfess · 02/03/2026 12:25

What exactly is the issue???

Manymoresometimes · 02/03/2026 12:29

I dont understand the question or problem? Youve booked something to do with your child on Mothers Day? Whats the issue?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 02/03/2026 12:35

I think it's a lovely thing to do on Mother's Day. So yes, maybe you are being a bit mean. Your daughter will really enjoy it, it'd be a shame for her to miss it.

I think we generally accept that when our kids are young and don't have the wherewithal to organise something special for us they remain the focus. The tables turn a bit once they're older and can organise a lunch/day out themselves with your interests in mind!
