Accidentally booked tickets a Bricktastic Lego event on Mother's day

My DD (13) is really into Lego so I booked tickets to Bricktastic event where people look at and sell Lego. It was £10 for 3 of us but I didn't realise til after I booked that it was on Mother's Day.
I have not told my daughter about it and I would rather have a lie in (it is at 10.30) and go to a late lunch which is booked for 14.30.
AIBU to just not go or am I being a bit mean.

Can’t you just go a lie in literally any other day? Why does it only have to be Mother’s Day?

this sounds super fun and I’d way rather do this with my kid than a lie in tbh

Just to confirm, you are complaining about spending time with your children on Mother's Day, and that something is at 10:30?

Indeed. Why did she have kids if her dream day is spending time by herself. Her child is 13, not 13 months. If she doesn’t like spending time with her kids now when will she?

I did this a couple of years ago with Harry Potter World. Felt really lucky that there were tickets only a few weeks ahead, then realised it was Mother's Day! We had a great time and it was lovely to spend it with my daughter.

Mothering Sunday, as it is properly known, was a thing long before any greetings card manufacturer was founded. It's the middle sunday of Lent and the traditional day to go and help your poor old mum to do her Spring Cleaning.

I get that but the current interpretation of it is very much a ‘hallmark holiday’. The mum in question here doesn’t even want to spend the day with her daughter let alone spend the day cleaning with her 😅 In reality there’s no need to have a lie in on that very day when OP could just have one on the Saturday, or Sunday the next week etc. it’s weird to put so much focus on a day that has no real significance. People are fine to celebrate birthdays on different days where it’s more convenient, even kids can understand that and a birthday is far more important.

And just further to add that to most, unless it’s miles away a 10.30 start with a team who can get herself ready is indeed a lie in 😅

I get it, if mothers day is to celebrate you as a mum, it would be nice if you could choose (likely for one rare day!) what you did. But as you've booked this, you need to go. However, if you're that desperate for a lie in and have a partner, I think you need to talk to them about ensuring you get that some other time and also make sure you're getting enough time to do your own things regularly.

I think I would purposely book something like this for Mother’s Day as it’s the perfect way to do something fun and different together, maybe go for a late lunch somewhere nearby after. Sounds like a lovely day!

Nosejobnelly · 04/03/2026 07:38

Sounds like a great MD to me. Get your lie in the day before.
