Michelin star london

Posting for traffic as no dedicated restaurants thread (that I can see). We have just been given the amazing opportunity of a child free weekend for the first time in 7 years!!!

Were thinking of heading to London and would like to go to at least one, all out, fancy restaurant so are seeking recommendations from you knowledgable lot if you don’t mind!

we did a few Michelin star places pre kids (hand and flowers, Paul ainsworth at number six, chez Bruce and another that was circa 2006 with someone before my husband which was a bit rubbish) but it’s been a long time so need some help as it may be another 7 years before we get another opportunity.

We are not really into pomp but love food, so it is all about the food for us and the chance to experience something we just don’t get access to very often.

hit me with your recommendations. Is Gordon Ramsay 3* worth it? Also interested in A Wong and Murano but any recommendations gratefully received.

also any other places (don’t have to be Michelin star) for lunch/brunch as we plan to stuff our faces all weekend.

Thanks so much. Want to make this a really memorable weekend on the food front!

Not a Michelin recommendation but somewhere for lunch...if you enjoy cheese and wine I cannot speak highly enough of Gordon's wine bar just off the strand. Has to be visited to believe quite how special it is. You can't book tables and it is always busy, but tables come free all the time. Not expensive and the cheese is to die for!

Gordon’s is always a good shout for me for this.

If you like a view to go with dinner, have a look at the Oxo Tower. It's not Michelin but still high end. The service is outstanding.

BigDishofBeefChowMein · 01/03/2026 23:00

Murano is lovely, fabulous food and very relaxed and welcoming. Didn't find the other guests seemed corporate when I've been.

Gordon Ramsay at Hospital Road was outstanding. It's been a while since I went but I'd definitely go back.

Otins · 01/03/2026 23:29

I loved the whole experience of The Ritz. Not stuffy at all. Exemplary service, and the food was heavenly. An extra-ordinary evening.

(I was disappointed at Gymkhana)

thatsthatsaidthemayor · 01/03/2026 23:33

Core is my favourite.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 01/03/2026 23:38

Murano I found underwhelming.

I love stuff like Ledbury, Hyde and Fallow... (I didnt realise it was YT famous i found it "by accident" i was walking past as decided to pop in)
Hospital road was spectacular as was Core.

Simpsons on the strand is reopening end of March if you’re coming after that - I just had a look at their breakfast menu and it looks great, so might be somewhere for breakfast. Otherwise all the rage is Pavyllon in the 4 seasons for brunch.

Loved Core. Ate at the Savoy Grill recently and that was fun (enjoyed the whole experience more than anything else) and if you haven’t been, it’s worth a visit (and you can do the American bar at the same time).

Oh yes @HaileyUpton Simpsons looks very promising. I'll go there between now and Sept for sure (I work just north of Covent Garden so it's pretty close) so if you bump the thread before you go I'll tell you if it's decent. Especially if you need a nightcap after all those meals, rumours have it that they're going to have a late late licence and a couple of very good cocktail bars...

It's really average. Dont.

I found oma ok.
went to pyro - nice
also kiln is super relaxed if you want lunch. No booking.
mountain - fine but not as good as they say

Agree! Really not worth it. If you want a view and better food, Sushi Samba (disclaimer, not been there for a couple of years but it was better than oxo!).

@MoveOnTheCards how did you get table at Devonshire it's booked within seconds?

We got lucky! I only booked about a week out.

Really? Admittedly it is 20 years since I went as I never go back somewhere (too many other places to go!) but it stands out as one of my favourite restaurants of all time (and I've done several Michelin stars including L'Enclume which has 3). Perhaps it's gone down hill. That's a shame.

Lozza70 · 02/03/2026 08:42

Recently been to Frog by Adam Handling for lunch and it was outstanding. I still dream about the bread and chicken butter😋 if you are looking for more cost affective Oma in borough market is brilliant. Been twice and a great experience both times. Greek dip heaven!

DS1 took me out to Dinner by Heston recently. Stunning and close to Hyde Park for a pre-dinner stroll.
The lamb course was unforgettable.
Have a wonderful time!

This is a good thread! We go to a London frequently and like you, love good food. My current favourites are:
Sabor - delicious Spanish food with a Michelin star.
Sketch - wonderful food have lunch or just go to the bar for drinks (near to Sabor so could combine). Haven’t eaten in their 3 Michelin star, but the food in the Library bar comes from the same restaurant.
Kitchen W8 - has a Michelin star and a great value lunch deal.
Murano - seems to have mixed reviews here, but we’ve always loved it.
Two other (not Michelin star but still fab) which we love are Theo Randall at the Intercontinental (look on The Fork for offers). Also The Delaunay on Aldwych - never disappoints and fab surroundings.
Next on my list to try are the Devonshire and Bouchin Racine.
Re hotels - we like the Radisson Blu Mercer Street for its amazing central location. We stayed there earlier this week for a concert. Join their reward system and you’ll get a discount and a free upgrade. We booked a premium room and got upgraded to a corner suite.

We've been to core twice and been disappointed both times, felt like there wasn't a single memorable dish and it was more about the presentation than the food, but we tend to prefer the less formal restaurants. Last time, all four of us sent our coffees back twice (and we never send anything back) and they were still undrinkable the third time, so we just left them, and they didn't offer to take them off the bill. Not the worst thing, but when dinner is the price of a secondhand car, it seems like the least they could do.

We used to love A. Wong, but we've been less enamoured since they moved to their Taste of China set menu, which we've had three times and found uneven all three.

I second Frog, Akoko (we've been 4 times and it's been consistently stellar), Ikoyi and Chishuru. Endo at the Rotunda is amazing, but they're closed following a fire. Humble Chicken is great and really fun. We had a fantastic meal at Sola recently, although the atmosphere is a bit odd. We also like Da Terra. Aulis is a really special experience. Evelyn's Table and Restaurant Story are worth a look.

@ExtraOnions Do you know anyone who's been to Row on 5? I'd be curious to hear from a real person. I know it's being hyped, but I swear, I have never had a meal in a Jason Atherton restaurant that I've liked.

Agree. For a meal with a view I would go to Hutong in the Shard instead. The food is pretty good, though not exceptional but the view is incredible. In fact, worth checking out if you can go to the bar at Hutong for a drink only. Great cocktails and a stellar view.

Used to love Locanda Locatelli at the Churchill hotel. It closed permanently January 2025 due to circumstances out of Giorgio Locatelli's control.. Giorgio has now opened Locatelli at the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square. I'm sure it will be equally as good.
If anyone has been, what's it like?

cooliebrown · 02/03/2026 11:33

not Michelin starred but we recently had a superb fish meal at Lillibets in Mayfair. A really fabulous venue and some extraordinary flavours - anchovy eclair was incredible...

Giddykiddy · 02/03/2026 14:29

Chez Bruce still lovely though I find the food a little rich. Not keen on Murano. Our very favourite in London is Trinity in Clapham - fantastic food and excellent unstuffy service. Going there on Friday for lunch

Going next month. Locatelli was our go to. Hoping it will good.

Spencer Metzger and Jason Atherton have a place now, Row on 5 … looks amazing.

Apparently this place is amazing, and will dry clean your coat while you eat!
