Michelin star london

Posting for traffic as no dedicated restaurants thread (that I can see). We have just been given the amazing opportunity of a child free weekend for the first time in 7 years!!!

Were thinking of heading to London and would like to go to at least one, all out, fancy restaurant so are seeking recommendations from you knowledgable lot if you don’t mind!

we did a few Michelin star places pre kids (hand and flowers, Paul ainsworth at number six, chez Bruce and another that was circa 2006 with someone before my husband which was a bit rubbish) but it’s been a long time so need some help as it may be another 7 years before we get another opportunity.

We are not really into pomp but love food, so it is all about the food for us and the chance to experience something we just don’t get access to very often.

hit me with your recommendations. Is Gordon Ramsay 3* worth it? Also interested in A Wong and Murano but any recommendations gratefully received.

also any other places (don’t have to be Michelin star) for lunch/brunch as we plan to stuff our faces all weekend.

Thanks so much. Want to make this a really memorable weekend on the food front!

Murano is to die for!

Noeggsontoast · 01/03/2026 17:48

Core - amazing! The best experience we’ve ever had at a Michelin starred restaurant

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 01/03/2026 17:51

My top place is The Ledbury - delicious food, amazing people, real engagement in what they serve - expensive but wonderful.

PlantBased11 · 01/03/2026 17:53

I'd go for a gorgeous lunch at Oma upstairs at Borough Market.
Whereabouts will you be based?

countbackfromten · 01/03/2026 18:04

I went to Akoko recently and one of the best meals I have ever had with incredible service. And I have been to a lot of incredible restaurants. Can highly recommend.

Thelondonone · 01/03/2026 18:05

I still love chez Bruce and, although not Michelin starred, but really like vasco &pierro.

Pointsdrama · 01/03/2026 18:12

A Wong is fantastic if you are a fan of Chinese food. There’s so many amazing restaurants in London now but you often have to book well in advance. For example, tables for 2 at Core are hard to get, but tables for 4 are easier as it’s more of a special occasion for couple’s type restaurant.

Hampshiremum2 · 01/03/2026 18:20

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is exceptional, I think Helene Darroze was a smidgen better though as I preferred the atmosphere

This, the service and food is impeccable. I was blown away.

PsychoSyd · 01/03/2026 18:36

If you fancy a curry, Gymkhana in Mayfair.

MalteserGeezee · 01/03/2026 18:37

We really like Hide near Green Park/Piccadilly

ExtraOnions · 01/03/2026 18:50

Spencer Metzger and Jason Atherton have a place now, Row on 5 … looks amazing.

ZoeyBartlett · 01/03/2026 19:00

Bonheur (where Le Gavroche was) went straight into Michelin with 2 stars in Feb. We went for lunch early Feb and it was superb. Great food and service.

ZoeyBartlett · 01/03/2026 19:01

Oma is also wonderfuL

Rolluprollupadvice · 01/03/2026 19:10

The Ledbury and Core are wonderful. I am on the fence about Caractere but some people love it.
Not having a star I would say The Dorian and The Barbary are worth a visit.
Where are you planning on staying?

labradorservant · 01/03/2026 19:14

We are going to the Ledbury in a few weeks. They don’t do vegan and allergies if that’s a problem! Needed to book 3 months in advance.

ThoughtfulSloth · 01/03/2026 19:17

Love love love A.Wong. Murano was okay but way too much explanation of the food, gaps between courses and faffing around.

ThoughtfulSloth · 01/03/2026 19:20

Honey and smoke on Great Portland Street is an amazing place for a delicious lunch.

Parsons fish restaurant in Covent Garden is also wonderful.

And maybe consider having a drink in the Royal Opera house Terrace!

Akoko is at the top of my list (too long) of London restaurants I simply must go to asap but haven't yet. (Well, Ikoyi and Endo are the actual top but they are probably pipe dreams for different reasons atm.)

But I can fully recommend that other Michelin-starred west African place, Chishuru. I remember going when it was a pop-up in Brixton Market and it's so amazing to see it rewarded with a Michelin star.

I can second A Wong, Core, Gymkhana though if we're talking fancy Chinese tasting menus in Pimlico I might choose the non-Michelin starred Hunan over A Wong.

It's been absolutely years since I went to Dinner and Restaurant Story - the former left me near-hallucinating in a food coma it was so good, the latter was tremendous fun.

Was recently impressed by Trivet - it'll please any wine geeks in your party.

St John is a classic for the reason. The Farringdon one is better than the Spitalfields one.

Not Michelin or even fancy, but when I eat the pork biang biang noodles at Master Wei I often think it might be the best dish in London. Go there for lunch.

HaileyUpton · 01/03/2026 19:22

Thank you all - I shall work my way through your recommendations and take a look. Not until September so hopefully we’ve time to book if we book soon. We’ve not yet booked hotel, so that to do too. We probably will skimp on hotel as plan to be out and about most of the time

Murano is amazing. If money is no object then Core or Helen Darroze at The Connaught. For something slightly more "affordable" definitely St Bart's and I think you can't go wrong with Benares if you love Indian and Angler if you love seafood.

BitterlyLemon · 01/03/2026 19:25

Simpsons on the strand is reopening end of March if you’re coming after that - I just had a look at their breakfast menu and it looks great, so might be somewhere for breakfast. Otherwise all the rage is Pavyllon in the 4 seasons for brunch.

Loved Core. Ate at the Savoy Grill recently and that was fun (enjoyed the whole experience more than anything else) and if you haven’t been, it’s worth a visit (and you can do the American bar at the same time).

Moanranger · 01/03/2026 19:25

I can recommend Trinity in Clapham Old Town. Top notch!

CMOTDibbler · 01/03/2026 19:28

Sketch is incredible. We've eaten at the Ledbury (not massively impressed), and Core (really good), but Sketch blows them away.
