Michelin star london

Posting for traffic as no dedicated restaurants thread (that I can see). We have just been given the amazing opportunity of a child free weekend for the first time in 7 years!!!

Were thinking of heading to London and would like to go to at least one, all out, fancy restaurant so are seeking recommendations from you knowledgable lot if you don’t mind!

we did a few Michelin star places pre kids (hand and flowers, Paul ainsworth at number six, chez Bruce and another that was circa 2006 with someone before my husband which was a bit rubbish) but it’s been a long time so need some help as it may be another 7 years before we get another opportunity.

We are not really into pomp but love food, so it is all about the food for us and the chance to experience something we just don’t get access to very often.

hit me with your recommendations. Is Gordon Ramsay 3* worth it? Also interested in A Wong and Murano but any recommendations gratefully received.

also any other places (don’t have to be Michelin star) for lunch/brunch as we plan to stuff our faces all weekend.

Thanks so much. Want to make this a really memorable weekend on the food front!

I will second st Bart’s We were going to go for their very reasonable lunch deal and ended up going all out with the wine flight and full menu. Its was extraordinary. There are loads of deals for lunch you can do

Leopardspota · 01/03/2026 19:29

Ikoyi is excellent, so is Frog by Adam Handling.

MoveOnTheCards · 01/03/2026 19:30

Murano is fantastic. Last time we had a table at the kitchen window which was great.

Hide is massively overrated, and over-priced for what it is. I was disappointed.

Pavyllon at the Four Seasons is brilliant. very spendy but love it.

Dinner is great. Imaginative and a nice dining room.

Chez Bruce feels like it’s lost its zing. DH was really ill last time we went for lunch there.

I mourn the Galvins. And Club Gascon :(

Check out The Devonshire. Lovely food, great buzz and the head chef is ex Fat Duck.

MoveOnTheCards · 01/03/2026 19:31

Oh yea and Sketch. Can’t remember what we ate (lunch in the Library) but I do remember a fab experience and lovely vibe with the tables all chatting.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 01/03/2026 19:31

Murano and St John Farringdon for me. Second Royal opera house for drinks.

Mithral · 01/03/2026 19:31

A Wong is my favourite restaurant in London. I used to work near there and went for lunch quite often before they got their star. Absolutely superb dim sum.

Sketch is nice too, forgot about it.

I’d read the reviews on restaurant Gordon Ramsay. They are very mixed! A friend went recently and was very underwhelmed, having had lots of Michelin starred meals in the past elsewhere.

Murano is on our list and hopefully we might make it this summer.

CuriousKangaroo · 01/03/2026 19:37

A Wong is absolutely amazing. I am lucky enough to have eaten there several times and have never not been blown away by the food. The dim sum lunch is really special - people fly over from China to experience it.

I found Murano a bit meh. The Ledbury is amazing. Can I also throw in Kitchen Table into the mix? Incredibly expensive but one of the best meals I have ever had.

And I don’t actually know if it has a Michelin star, but I highly recommend Portland. It’s unstuffy, delicious and the staff are lovely. It’s probably my current favourite (though not the best) restaurant in London.

Vivienne1000 · 01/03/2026 19:39

Cadagon Arms in Chelsea serves the best pub food…

Ferdyandthegingerone · 01/03/2026 19:39

We’ve tried most of them. Usually just ended up with a big bill and indigestion!
Petrus we really liked but our favourite restaurant in London is Wilton’s. Consistently amazing food, no “foam” which I bloody hate, excellent service, quietly fabulous is how I would describe it. Have the cheese soufflé and the turbot. You will not be sorry.

Same! And I used to go for the pre-theatre meal he did after he took over but before he got his Michelin star. In fact, I used to go there years and years ago when it was owned by Andrew Wong’s parents so I have long history with the place. Obviously Andrew Wong is better, but his parents ran a fantastic place too.

TonTonMacoute · 01/03/2026 19:43

Chez Bruce still completely has it. It's the perfect mix of relaxed and superb food.

NorthantsNewbie · 01/03/2026 19:44

Another one who was underwhelmed by Hide. They did a few things which I found really tacky and disappointing. The bar downstairs is fab though!

At a much cheaper end of the scale, Shack Fu Yu is excellent. We had the set menu and added in a pork dish on the recommendation of the waitress and it was incredible.

Restlessinthenorth · 01/03/2026 19:45

Not a Michelin recommendation but somewhere for lunch...if you enjoy cheese and wine I cannot speak highly enough of Gordon's wine bar just off the strand. Has to be visited to believe quite how special it is. You can't book tables and it is always busy, but tables come free all the time. Not expensive and the cheese is to die for!

blizymitzy · 01/03/2026 19:48

we have eaten in many many top end places and this is undoubtedly the best we have ever eaten

Agreed! I thought it was fine but was glad I wasn't paying (it was a work thing). Had what might have been the best cocktail I've ever had there though - just looked and can't see it on the menu now but it was red wine with some sort of liquorice and chocolate stuff. So good.

My go to in my 20’s. Now in my 60’s. A few of us were saying we need to revisit. It was fabulous then. I’m glad it still is.

Oma in Borough Market is really great - and more reasonably priced compared to some Michelin starred places. It is not stuffy at all / very casual.

I would also recommend the St John and Benares. Haven’t been to A Wong, but Hakkasan Mayfair was always great (but has lost its star since I was last there).

Sushi Samba is always fun and the views are excellent. (Duck and Waffle good for brunch).

The boot and flogger near Borough Market is a fab wine bar with a small but great menu. Ditto Stem and Stem on Bow Lane in the City.

Abd80 · 01/03/2026 20:14

Gymkhana !

Wolfpa · 01/03/2026 20:16

A Wong do the most amazing custard filled buns

Johnogroats · 01/03/2026 20:21

Oma is great! Also just had lunch at the Hawthorn in Shepherds Bush. It’s not a Michelin but I have to say that it was fantastic: great menu; service and the food was fabulous. It’s been written up in the Times. Totally recommend it!

musicmum75 · 01/03/2026 20:26

I have eaten at Hide and enjoyed the food but the sommelier was awful. Completely ignored me and only spoke to my husband, offered him the wine to taste etc even though I was the one who had ordered it. Puts me off ever going back.

inmyheadimthequeen · 01/03/2026 20:33

I enjoyed Murano but didn't love it, it felt a little bit 'corporate', by which I mean full of business people for whom it wasn't a special experience. We don't get up to London all that often but Bonheur is next on the list, with Theo Randall's Cucina for something more casual.

The one thing I would say is that if you are anything like me, a tasting menu type meal needs looking forward to and doesn't leave much need for lunch as well. If this seems likely, and food is your thing, go for a wander round Borough Market and pick up some street food to snack on - it's amazing.

Have fun!
