I was just introduced to a friends husband, and he went in for a hug, but with that sort of kiss/not kiss on each cheek. (If that makes any sense). This is absolutely not how I hug, so the whole thing threw me off and I ended up somehow in the kerfuffle, placing my hand on the back of his head mid hug. I am absolutely mortified!!!! I don’t know how it even happened, but it was just super weird and uncomfortable and I wanted the ground to swallow me up. Help me feel better about this. I’m currently planning to never set foot out my front door again!!!!!

I went in for a hug and a kiss with a friend I don't see often, we got the wrong angle and both recalculated - unfortunately with a worse angle and she damn near broke my cheekbone, as we smashed our faces together. She didn't say anything, we were going to a gig and it's all I could think about.

Crumbelina · 02/03/2026 23:08

Oh Christ. This thread has just dredged up the memory of when I went to give my BIL a hug and air kiss and we somehow ended kissing each other on the lips. I'm surprised my subconscious doesn't remind me of that on a daily basis.

wellstopdoingitthen · 02/03/2026 23:11

After a serious business meeting/negotiation where I was trying to be very professional with the man from the supplier company, we went to do the hug/handshake thing rather awkwardly in the car park as I was leaving.

unfortunately a thread from my wool dress caught in his fly and what followed seemed like an hour’s operation to separate us,

We were both very very embarrassed especially as my colleague was sitting in the car waiting for me and was peering out at the shenanigans. We never spoke of the incident again although everyone in my office would make comments each time we spoke on the phone. He came to my office once or twice afterwards but I made sure we said goodbye with a handshake across the desk.

Don’t worry, I kissed my SIL’s boyfriend on the neck when we had to since obligatory kiss / hug goodbye. He moved his stupid head and I nearly died. Now I only ever hug

Wreckinball · 02/03/2026 23:24

Love these, just when I think I’ve cracked it, someone bends the wrong way and we head butt, I need lessons

The deceased son...ie the son of the deceased....yes I see what you mean. I hate English sometimes 😂.

'The deceased son' does it. On first reading, I had a mental image of you kissing a cadaver.

Isit2026yet · 02/03/2026 23:38

@No1Some1 my husbands friends do this. No mallace intended i’d park it.

NoForThe13thTime · 02/03/2026 23:54

I never hugged or kissed friends growing up so when I went to uni it was a complete surprise to me. My friend's DP gave me a sedate kiss on the cheek goodbye, I did the same back with a massive "MWOAH" sound, like you would if you were kissing a toddler. He looked shocked, I was mortified.

I live in France and once kissed my boss wetly on the neck when he came in to give la bise (cheek kisses). And have kissed people on their ear or hair in more social settings...

It's normal when you're not used to such embraces/kisses. Don't worry about it :)

(But I'm glad since Covid that all that kissing has died off a bit)

Edited

I knew I needed my eyes tested when I kissed my son in law in the neck instead of the cheek.

But... how did that happen, @wellstopdoingitthen ?

HangryBrickShark · 03/03/2026 01:55

I'm the same, I remember as a child how uncomfortable it used to make me feel. I hate all this air kissing shite too, I really do.

I once kissed my plumber goodbye at the front door as he finished work for the day! - the first work day of a job that was to take several weeks.

To this day, I don't know what possessed me.

I think it had been a long day and I wasn't fully focused on reality.

And before y'all ask, no he wasn't a demi-God - he was a portly, middle aged, grey and balding gent in a scruffy boiler suit - with a slightly shocked expression on his face.

I'm even older.

I didn't see him off the premises thereafter.

Sorry but this made me cry laughing. He sounds like the plumber that came to my dm house years ago and I now have a picture in my head of her kissing him 😳🤣🤣

Franjipanl8r · 03/03/2026 02:28

The worst I’ve done is clumsily swinging arms when walking with a colleague and accidentally holding his hand.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 03/03/2026 02:43

I temped in a small office for a few weeks, about 15 years ago. On my final day as I was leaving and saying goodbye to a colleague, I leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek. I'd barely spoken to the man. Think I was just flustered remembering everything and packing up. It was only when I got out of the door that I thought "Oh God!" and remembered his mildly surprised reaction. Fortunately I have never seen him again 🙈

Hahaha 😂

I was meeting the family of a new boyfriend, and was kissing them on the cheek to say hello. Miscalculated the angle with his brother and we smashed cheeks together, leaving us both rubbing our faces in pain. We laughed but I'm still cringing about it months later.

God no. Take it from me. I see dead bodies all the time and not an image I'd like stuck in my head

BlueEyedBogWitch · 03/03/2026 06:14

I remember a thread on here years ago that was started by a woman who had gone to shake her boss’s hand and ended up cupping his balls.

That’s made me LOL 😂

Hugged a friend of my husband a few weeks ago as he was leaving and our ears sort of suctioned together. It was awful. We both gallantly pretended nothing had happened but it so had. The feeling still haunts me now!

Wishing14 · 03/03/2026 06:36

I only do weird and awkward hugs tbh 😂

Monsterslam · 03/03/2026 06:38

When I was learning to drive I missed the gear stick and placed my hand AND TRIED TO WIGGLE my instructor's thigh.

I really wasn't expecting such a bland story after reading the thread title.

I thought you were going to say you kissed him on the lips or accidentally touched his arse.

I wouldn't worry about this at all.

This!

Stop being so dramatic OP.

See now that’s embarrassing OP 😁

LoveheartBear · 03/03/2026 06:48

Did anyone else immediately think of Erika Kirk’s controversial hug with JD Vance? It set the rumour mills in overdrive, OP, so I think you have good reasons to be concerned ☺️.
