Any recommendations? Hopefully part of a set, that I can add too over time, with other knives.

happy to pay money for a good set.

I have the Pro Cook X50. I got its as part of a set (I think it’s 20% off at the moment) and even DH commented on how good it is.

Wusthof Superslicer. By far the best bread knife I’ve ever used, and not just for bread. Works great on getting through tough skins on things like watermelon and butternut squash too.

Imo go for one with a scalloped edge over serrated, and forged over stamped. It glides through bread rather than saws it, and retains sharpness. It will last for years.

Carrs bread knife 🤌🏼

A friend of mine bought me the Opinel Bread Knife as a present. Expensive but it’s absolutely brilliant! Cuts bread like butter! https://amzn.eu/d/0cZqrx1v

Forever sharp. Used to be called Worlds Sharpest knife. We've had it for over 18 years, never needed sharpened and it's perfect as the day it was bought. Cuts bread beautifully and doesn't rip the bread.

CurlewKate · 01/03/2026 17:53

I have a bread bow because I make my own bread and it’s the only thing I’ve found that cuts it when it’s still warm.

TheGoodOnesAreAllGone · 01/03/2026 23:33

I have a set of Global knives, pricey but brilliant knives

DilkushaKitchen · 01/03/2026 23:37

I have a Robert Welch one, they are great knives, they feel really good in your hand. I think it helps to go to a shop and properly feel some before making a choice.

cornbunting · 01/03/2026 23:39

All our best kitchen knives - including the bread knife - are Global (plus one cheapy one that I got from Woolworths 25 years ago that holds an edge ridiculously well).

I have one Sabatier knife that's basically display only - it goes dull within about half a second of slicing anything. Do not recommend!

Changedasouting · 01/03/2026 23:52

I love our global knives

Parrlorwarrior · 01/03/2026 23:53

Global knives are the best.

InterestedDad37 · 02/03/2026 00:34

I've got a £3 one from the hardware shop. It's excellent 👍

GoodVibesHere · 02/03/2026 03:29

Global

Runssometimes · 02/03/2026 07:19

Robert Welch ones here. I just have three - large chopping nice, smaller one and the bread knife.Feel lovely to use.

Whyherewego · 02/03/2026 07:22

TOG knives... made in UK and I love my bread knife

fairislecable · 02/03/2026 07:26

Another vote for Global knives here. I bought my friend a Global bread knife it was so effective she cut herself! But now wouldn’t be without it.

bellaronaldo · 02/03/2026 07:56

Opinel

ShoeCanRun · 02/03/2026 08:02

Another vote for Robert Welch. I’ve had my knife set for nearly 20 years and it’s going strong. Have added a few extras over the years too.

BlimeyOReillyO · 02/03/2026 08:43

Thank you everyone, I shall go and research them all.

I have one of the Global ones. I think the bagel knife is actually the best for most bread but the bread one nice too.
