Am I being unreasonable in my holiday requirements?

My DH and I have had a very hard couple of years but things are hopefully starting to look better. We really want to get away over Easter on a last minute holiday, preferably to the Canary Islands or similar.

Looking at hotels though I keep coming across issues with sleeping arrangements. We have a 3 year old DD who is obviously far too young to be by herself but we want to be able to sit and chat after she is asleep.

Ideally I want all inclusive (don't fancy hauling a grumpy, tired pre-schooler back from a restaurant every night) but even when you look at apartment hotels the bedrooms don't have doors on or you are expected to make up a sofa bed every night.

How do people manage this? Is it me or is there a major gap in the market?

Budget isn't huge but I didn't think tiny either preferably flights and hotel for £2000 - £3000 for seven days. Probably 31st March to 7th April. Suggestions very gratefully received.

YABU - you just cant use holiday sites properly. Here is what you are looking for.
YANBU - It doesn't exist at this price point.

You need to get a suite in a hotel, they'll have a living room that's separate from the bedroom. We have to do that as our children are also too little to be in their own rooms. Unfortunately they do cost more than 2 standard rooms and you're going to struggle to find one within your budget.

BitzerMalonie · 01/03/2026 06:36

Have a look at Lopesan Baobab in Melonares, Gran Canaria. We stayed in a room which had two bedrooms.
Proper beds and doors as well as being in a lovely resort.
Can’t remember price though.

Morepositivemum · 01/03/2026 06:37

i think you need to adjust expectations, you seem to be looking for an alone time holiday with a three year old, it’s a family holiday, it won’t necessarily be reconnecting time (but that doesn’t mean it won’t still be great!)

Holidaytips · 01/03/2026 07:24

Are you really set on AI? We tend to do Eurocamp, so self catered but with pools/restaurants/entertainment on site. You can stay in a lodge or caravan and each have your own bedroom and there's a separate living space. Plus it means not having to get dressed for breakfast 😆

potentialdogowner · 01/03/2026 07:33

GF VICTORIA in Tenerife does a separate bedroom and living room. We did this with 2yo DS. Lovely hotel, and there’s an enclosed outdoor play area connected to the dining area.

Rhodesbride · 01/03/2026 07:35

Sentido aequora suites in lanzarote have a separate room for kids and All inclusive. We went there 2 years in a row when DD was little.

a separate room for DD is top of my criteria when looking for a holiday.

DaveWatts · 01/03/2026 07:37

You need a resort that has family rooms or apartments on site but they are few and far between for AI! On Tenerife I know that Green Gardens resort has them and they also do toy packages, kitchenette etc in their suites so maybe take a look there?

RosesAndHellebores · 01/03/2026 07:44

Either you have to up your budget, gonself catering or compromise about sharing space with your dd. FWIW we never shared a bedroom with our DC.

Twilightstarbright · 01/03/2026 07:49

Sentido aqueora does junior suites that have two separate rooms. DS slept on that single sofa bed that stayed a bed all week and DH and I in the bedroom. AI is an option there.

mummyh2016 · 01/03/2026 07:58

Another one suggesting Sentido Aeqoura in Lanzarote however it will be a little over budget. The dates you have suggested are over Easter so school holidays, can you go a little earlier or a little later?

Mummadeze · 01/03/2026 08:01

Sunwing Fañabe Beach in Costa Adeje is v reasonable and has studio rooms with separated living room areas. It is so fun for little kids. Definitely recommend.

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 01/03/2026 08:19

tui blue flamingo beach I. Lanzarote is exactly what you want

1 bed apartment with a double or two twins clipped together in the bedroom
two sofa beds in the lounge for you DD
terrace to sit outside on
a small kitchenette in the lounge
It’s sleeps 4 so with 3 of you it’s fine

its AI really great for kids and right opposite flamingo beach in playa Blanca and fab for kids
your just on playa Blanca promenade so
loads to do
great water park not far

very geared up for families
If your going in April it will be pretty warm

i would avoid Turkey / Greece as it’s low season then even though it’s Easter

I’ve just priced it up 2500 for a week AI for the 3 of you inc flights / transfer from Gatwick

I’ve stayed there it’s fab but I don’t think they do AI they didn’t when I stayed there

PrimaniTu · 01/03/2026 08:27

Las Dahlias Tenerife
This is a geat AI hotel, good food, warm pool and more importantly connecting rooms with a door. You have the option to book an interconnecting room when you book with EasyJet/Jet2. Etc

Bushmillsbabe · 01/03/2026 08:30

Look at HD Parque Cristobal - Gran Canaria or Tenerife. Both have AI options and really lovely. They have 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom options, with lounge area. All are single level villas as part of a hotel complex.

We just came back from a 1 bed in Gran Canaria with 2 children aged 6 and 9.
Yes lounge was a sofa bed, but we just left it out for the duration, there was so much to do that we were only in the apartment for changing and sleeping. It was 3k for half term AI for 4 people.

Clearinguptheclutter · 01/03/2026 08:47

There are loads of threads on here about this, including ones started by me

I feel your pain
2 bed apartments are the way to go, we’ve stayed in really nice ones on the Algarve, but never done AI. Campsites in France with a 2/3 bed cabin also work well.

I think most families do the whole four in a room thing which definitely would not work for us. When kid are teens, you can do two separate rooms but this is really expensive. “Interconnecting” is hard to find.

unfortunately almost anything at all in school hols is crazy expensive these days

Bearbookagainandagain · 01/03/2026 08:57

We've had the same issue to be honest, we rarely book hotels for that reason (only when they have connecting rooms).

Our eldest is a very good sleeper but will not fall asleep if we are in the room. Not a chance. We need to be away and ideally close the door.

The few times we had to because we had no other choice, he was jumping around hysterical until midnight or so.

So we only pick hotels with connecting rooms - but there aren't many. Or we rent appartements. Never really had the issue you described with the room only having single beds. I think we probably would pick a twin room over family rooms though!

Ilovecandlez · 01/03/2026 17:52

Lamar Costa los gigantes in Tenerife. Have stayed twice and I think most of their rooms are suites so a living area with a sofa bed and a bedroom with a double

kasho5 · 01/03/2026 18:47

Put your requirements/budget into chatgpt and see what they suggest

Manymoresometimes · 01/03/2026 18:49

Its not difficult, just make sure you have a balcony or patio.

Mere1 · 01/03/2026 19:57

Interconnecting rooms?

Plasticchesse · 01/03/2026 20:21

I just did a random search on this site, for self catering, 2 bedroomed apartment, from 2nd April, 2 adults one child, canaries or balearics, from London airports.

https://www.jet2holidays.com/search/results?airport=7_127_99&date=02-04-2026&duration=7&occupancy=r1c3r1c&destination=38_39&sortorder=1&page=1&boardbasis=4

In fact those results really only yield villas for what you need, not apartments because they're separate apartments, not 2 bed apartments

The prices are shocking as well in my view, I never book package holidays, always airbnb with separate flights.

This sort of thing, randomly picked Menorca, not sure what the pros and cons of the particular area are....
