Am I being unreasonable in my holiday requirements?

My DH and I have had a very hard couple of years but things are hopefully starting to look better. We really want to get away over Easter on a last minute holiday, preferably to the Canary Islands or similar.

Looking at hotels though I keep coming across issues with sleeping arrangements. We have a 3 year old DD who is obviously far too young to be by herself but we want to be able to sit and chat after she is asleep.

Ideally I want all inclusive (don't fancy hauling a grumpy, tired pre-schooler back from a restaurant every night) but even when you look at apartment hotels the bedrooms don't have doors on or you are expected to make up a sofa bed every night.

How do people manage this? Is it me or is there a major gap in the market?

Budget isn't huge but I didn't think tiny either preferably flights and hotel for £2000 - £3000 for seven days. Probably 31st March to 7th April. Suggestions very gratefully received.

YABU - you just cant use holiday sites properly. Here is what you are looking for.
YANBU - It doesn't exist at this price point.

** Barcelo Castillo - sorry for the typo

gototogo · 28/02/2026 20:58

And take a buggy, brilliant for evenings

Ineedanewsofa · 28/02/2026 20:59

We sat out on the balcony in Tenerife last week until 10pm - did need a jumper but it was lovely. Our room was a king size bed with a sofa bed for DC, we didn’t have to make it up every day it was done by housekeeping and no problem creeping past onto the balcony once they were asleep 😉

Years ago we found the Barcelo chain in Spain to be good - 2 bedroom family suites or adjoining rooms.

If you don’t mind self-catering, look at villagrancanaria.com. I’m from Gran Canaria myself and I normally go at least once a year to visit my parents. We stay at a villa with them so it’s like a vacation for them too. You should be able to get a 2 or 3 bed villa with your own pool within your budget. Most of their properties are in the golf complex near Meloneras, so you are pretty close to a nice area with a beach and restaurants. There’s also a hotel in the complex with further restaurants and a spa. Otherwise I’d recommend one of the Lopesan hotels but I am not sure they’ll meet your requirements regarding separate rooms/doors.

SparklyGreenTiger · 28/02/2026 21:23

Try HD Parque Cristobal in Gran Canaria. Separate bungalows with 1/2 beds and a living space with basic kitchen facilities, AI available.

Figgygal · 28/02/2026 21:23

I'm all for apartment hotels
2 bedrooms so not living on top of each other but have facilities and other people around for the kids.
Not fussed about AI but even then these aren't easy to find
Menorca seems a good shout we've been 3 times with that set up.

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 28/02/2026 21:29

We got a suite in playa blanco. Had a separate bedroom and the lounge was split into 2 with a double bed and a separate area with a sofa. AI with a beach 10 minutes away.

Aeolos Beach in Corfu

Fends · 28/02/2026 21:36

It won’t be chilly

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 28/02/2026 21:37

The Tagora Hotel in Costa Adeje has some more sensible family rooms.

We found a few in Turkey, we're going in a week.

It's a big gap in the market IMO.

TeenLifeMum · 28/02/2026 21:39

This is why we used canvas holidays and stayed in static caravans when dc were little. They have their own bedroom, and you have the living room and decking with firepit/bbq. They had really good pools and fab set up. We only moved to AI type holidays with teens.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 28/02/2026 21:43

You get a suite surely?

Lemons1571 · 28/02/2026 21:47

Try Los Zocos Impressive Lanzarote or HD Hotels Gran Canaria or Tenerife. 2 bed apartments within AI hotels.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 28/02/2026 19:29

In answer to sitting and chatting after DD has gone to bed, you can use the balcony 🙂

Yeah this is your only option if you want to be catered for but don't want to pay for an apartment/"aparthotel". I've been to the Canaries loads of times and only ever stayed in one that had 2 separate bedrooms as standard without paying a fair bit more.

Dirtydianaoh · 28/02/2026 21:49

Random but Chessington hotel has the bunk beds in a split room thing

Bellavida99 · 28/02/2026 21:52

We’ve never had a problem finding 2 room apartments. In jet2 you specify how many rooms on the initial search. On Tui app when you get to the room you scroll across and suites and apartments show up if available and it says how much extra it is. I can’t think of anything worse than all sleeping in one room but we like hotel facilities rather than villas etc so always do this although we do bed and breakfast or half board not all inclusive as tend to get out and about every day.

Nurselife · 28/02/2026 21:52

HD cristobel hotel in Gran Canaria. They have lovely little bungalow style accomadation. 2 beds and a small lounge area.

Lottiesmummy25 · 28/02/2026 21:58

We use a slumber pod which we take with us and put over the travel cot (they also sell an inflatable bed you can use with it up to age 4/5. It has a little pocket for white noise and is completly blackout so we can chat and watch TV etc. you will also be absolutely fine sat on a balcony in the Canary Islands over Easter just take a hoody / use a blanket from the room if you get a bit chilly.

Diplodocusarecool · 28/02/2026 22:14

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

The consensus seems to be that I can't use the Internet so I am grateful to all the lovely people helping me out.

Hi
we’ve stayed in a lot of all inclusives that have a ‘main’ bedroom with a small living area and a sofa bed. Honestly, it’s not hard to make up the sofa bed or leave it out? Most places housekeeping remade ours and folded the bed up … all you need to do is open it. You won’t need to make it from scratch everyday.
Have everything ready before you go out and all your night stuff so that you won’t wake her when getting ready for bed. We got it down to a fine art!!

Our dd was a terrible sleeper and I dreaded our first holiday and she slept like a log!

Have a look at:
GF Hotels
Iberostar
If you ever look at Majorca then Zaferio Hotels are great.

Think the evenings will be cooler but I don’t think you will freeze. Take a hoodie and bottoms if you are a cold person, I am so understand that you don’t want to be shivering on the balcony.

Have a lovely holiday x

youshouldyes · 28/02/2026 22:54

Have a look at the family suites at the Golden Taurus Aquapark on the Costa Brava.

JumpingPumpkin · 28/02/2026 23:32

It's why I always booked self catering apartments for holidays. Much easier to get 2 bedrooms in those than in the all-inclusive hotels where they seem to expect you to sleep on a sofabed.

HortiGal · 01/03/2026 00:23

To add, it wont’t be chilly at Easter , we went last month and it was low 20s
