Am I being unreasonable in my holiday requirements?

My DH and I have had a very hard couple of years but things are hopefully starting to look better. We really want to get away over Easter on a last minute holiday, preferably to the Canary Islands or similar.

Looking at hotels though I keep coming across issues with sleeping arrangements. We have a 3 year old DD who is obviously far too young to be by herself but we want to be able to sit and chat after she is asleep.

Ideally I want all inclusive (don't fancy hauling a grumpy, tired pre-schooler back from a restaurant every night) but even when you look at apartment hotels the bedrooms don't have doors on or you are expected to make up a sofa bed every night.

How do people manage this? Is it me or is there a major gap in the market?

Budget isn't huge but I didn't think tiny either preferably flights and hotel for £2000 - £3000 for seven days. Probably 31st March to 7th April. Suggestions very gratefully received.

YABU - you just cant use holiday sites properly. Here is what you are looking for.
YANBU - It doesn't exist at this price point.

Is your dd a good sleeper?

We used to book hotels and hostels with family rooms (generally a double bed and a single). We put dd to bed and switched the light off. Then we'd have a lie down; put in headphones and listen to music or podcasts and switch the light back on once she'd been asleep for a while.

But we were lucky to have a very heavy sleeper who could sleep through anything.

I wish 😂. My DD has a vendetta against sleep.

In summer we would but at easter I thought it might be rather chilly.

The canaries are not chilly at Easter

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 28/02/2026 19:45

Either balcony or patio depending on level, take joggers/hoody for the evening. You may find you sit out in the entertainment or bars longer with a 3 yo anyway after dinner

Because all the ones I have found have single beds in both bedrooms. The double is the sofa bed in the living room

Most beds are two twins pushed together. I've not had many (any) in Europe that have been doubles. In the US or Caribbean though you get two doubles.

Just book a two bed if you can afford it or sit on the balcony. Canaries are warm at Easter plus take a hoody and snuggle under a blanket

PangolinPan · 28/02/2026 19:46

You can get connecting rooms. Though when we've been away we've let the kids stay up for the animation and they've napped in the day. Will never forget our two year old being up at 10pm on inflatables living her best life!

Octavia64 · 28/02/2026 19:50

I was in the canaries in January.

balcony was fine in the evening although I did have a jumper.

I stayed in a self catering 1 bedroom apartment in a block of such and I ate out for lunch but bought picky bits or beans on toast or similar for dinner.

lots of families with small
kids in my complex.

whiteroseredrose · 28/02/2026 19:52

Check apartments on Booking dot com and then try TUI, Jet2 or similar for flights? Filter to get a one bedroom apartment so that you have a living room and balcony?

Ivygold · 28/02/2026 19:54

I recommend Gran Oasis Resort in Tenerife for this. The bedroom is on a separate floor so you can sit downstairs in the evenings whilst your DD is sleeping upstairs.

WDWfan · 28/02/2026 19:59

Honestly, your budget is quite low for a week AI in the Easter holidays... Hate to say it but holidays are just far far more expensive now than they were even in recent times. Good luck!

Sheldonslovechild · 28/02/2026 20:03

Los Zocos in Lanzarote. Nice hotel and food. AI was really decent. They have 2 bedroom suites and when we went last year in March it was warm enough to sit on the balcony, just put a light jacket/hoodie on if got a little chilly.

likelysuspect · 28/02/2026 20:06

What country?

Most kids in Spain are up late at night and arent grumpy, I would get an airbnb, sleep in the day while the shops are shut, usually 2-5ish or so (if that was your main reason for all inclusive)

Zanatdy · 28/02/2026 20:07

Get a 2 bed apartment

HandColouredPhotos · 28/02/2026 20:07

Booking.com filter for family room

Book flights direct with airline

Would need to pay transfer to your accommodation

Have you looked at Portugal or Egypt ?

Or ask a Travel Agent

MyYearThisYear · 28/02/2026 20:17

Royal Sunset Beach Club, Costa Adeje does 2BR apartments. Nice heated pool, entertainment around the pool too. Not AI but apartments well kitted out, pool snack bar does really good food, inc take away, restaurant & bar onsite. Eating out there's plenty options literally across the street. Supermarket two mins down the street for essentials when the LO is down for the night

IWishToBeAnonymous · 28/02/2026 20:22

Possibly a bit too cold at the beginning of April for swimming but the Mitsis Selection Alila
Faliraki, Rhodes has rooms either with a private pool or probably better a jacuzzi on the patio, with a bedroom and then sliding doors leading to 2 beds for children and then more doors to the patio. All inclusive too.

IWishToBeAnonymous · 28/02/2026 20:29

Aquila Rithymna Beach, Adelianos Kampos, Crete has 'classic family rooms' with a children's bedroom then adults then patio. The section we were in had a children's pool just outside in a really quiet area which was fantastic. There's an all inclusive option and lovely food.
Sorry neither of my suggestions are in the Canary Islands.

CathyBlowsBubbles · 28/02/2026 20:33

I think you’ll find most 1bed apartments are twin beds in the bedroom. We must have stayed in about 20 of them and it’s always the same. When my boys were younger, we just put them to bed in the beds and we slept on the sofa bed. This meant we had the balcony and the tv.
Re the chill-it’s unlikely to be cold but can’t you just pack a cosy hoodie to pull on for sitting on the balcony at night? When we did Majorca in early May one year, I actually packed my lightweight fake oodie which was incredibly cosy to pull on over my pjs each evening to sit out.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 28/02/2026 20:38

Does it need to be over Easter or does someone work in a school?

Just thinking with your DD being under school age, avoiding the holidays would give you a better budget to play with.

Do you mean you've got to have a double bed in your room as opposed to 2 singles next to each other? I'm not clear. I found a 2 bedroom suite straightaway in Gran Canaria, but each bedroom had 2 singles. There's plenty of hotels like that I think, but may not be AI, just have restaurants.

Or somewhere like this, which has 2 bedroom facilities:

We’re going to a hotel in Lanzarote in the summer. All inclusive and it’s a 2-bed bungalow rather than a hotel room. Booked through Jet2.

HortiGal · 28/02/2026 20:53

Hotel Flora in Puerto del Carmen has good apartments with large balconies; junior suite is ideal for couple with little ones

Starhaf · 28/02/2026 20:56

1 and 2 bedroom bungalows at Barcelona Castillo, in Caleta on Fuerteventura are great for this . Bonus is only 15 mins from the airport and excellent All inclusive including branded spirits

gototogo · 28/02/2026 20:56

Comes down to cost, little ones generally travel free or much reduced but will be in a travel cot or on a sofa bed (they make it up at the start) if you want two spaces you need to pay the surcharge for a suite/apartment. Remember you can sit on the balcony in the evening
