To take Y10 D’s out of school for 3 days

Trying to plan upcoming holiday and was wondering whether it would be reasonable for DD to miss 3 days pre-Feb half term in 2027. It would be for a once in a lifetime trip. Was hoping to go this year but have had some unexpected financial stuff come up.

She will be our first to sit these exams so am not really sure what the impact would be and if there’s anything critical happening around those dates exam/revision-wise.

Lots of schools have their final mock exams before Feb half term.

Is she Y10 now, or Y10 next year?

Will she be Year 10 or Year 11? I definitely wouldn't in Year 11 (potentially might be mocks or course work deadlines).

If in Year 10, at it truly is the trip of a lifetime that you cannot do at another time, I would consider what your child would want. one of mine would be very stressed about missing school, the other would not care less.

Three days in y10 for a once in a lifetime trip, yes I would - and I’m not someone who takes time off school lightly. Most important time for y10 is summer term when they sit their first mocks or at least assessment exams. I wouldn’t take them out in y11.

Absolutely not in Y11. Maybe in Y10.

We will not be taking any holidays after summer y10 until GCSEs are over and then I’m taking dd to Thailand in July! Can’t wait.

Thanks - she will be Y10 at that point. Currently Y9

Take her out. Plenty of time to catch up.

My DDs school have skiing trips and a trip to Iceland around that time of year that is open to year 10s and it usually involves missing a day or so of school so I wouldn't think twice about taking her out.
