Unacceptable?

The recent quote from our education secretary below AIBU saying young people don’t know sexuality and may need guidance?

Unacceptable?

Or maybe attire is a societal construct. So many in this country disagree with Muslim women being ‘forced’ to dress a particular way, but have no problem with us and our children being forced to wear particular garments. I genuinely can’t see the difference.

Sexuality is nothing to do with clothing.

The quote doesn’t seem to match your statement.

School uniform should be the same for everyone. I don’t know what this has to do with sexuality though?

SaveMeFromHumanity · 28/02/2026 10:58

Sexuality is nothing to do with clothing.

This.

I haven't read the article but I hope she's not conflating the two.

As a teacher, I think school uniform is a good idea but not in its current form (at primary anyway).

I don't care what boys wear as long as everyone understands that a boy wearing a dress has not magically become a girl.

In fact, Nevermind17, I agree with your whole post.

Yes I agree clothing has little to do sexuality, I just feel that youngsters need guidance & perhaps boundaries at a young age and maybe school uniform as per gender is something that should not be altered

Make and female clothing is a bit different for practical reasons. I was wondering whether uniform for children under 10 should be trousers, then realised that’s harder for little girls to manage in the toilets. Skirts make going for a wee easier.

TheDenimPoet · 28/02/2026 14:35

People protest for the sake of protesting. It's getting old now.

It do think it’s ridiculous that most people will happily agree that girls and women should never be restricted in what they can do or wear because of their gender but the same still doesn’t apply to boys and men.

If girls can wear trousers why shouldn’t boys be able to wear skirts? Or do you feel that girls shouldn’t be able to wear trousers?
