Eaten single cream 7 days out of date…

… and I know it will be absolutely fine. I do not need to ask MN whether I should call 111 or whether I will die. I won’t. It will be fine. It smelled and tasted lovely. Best before dates are a concept invented to avoid litigation.

Am I being unreasonable not to seek your collective reassurance that my demise is not imminent?!

A&E. Now.

Why is everyone and their dogs on MN eating out of date food at the minute? This is the 4th thread I've seen this week on the subject

thistimelastweek · 27/02/2026 20:26

I think I've worked my way round the double negatives and voted accordingly.
You're going to live.

You’ll either throw up or be fine.

I eat ‘out of date’ food all the time. If it looks, smells and tastes ok, it’s probably ok.

I'm thinking this one is a parody.

Along with everyone suddenly having bad cleaners, it seems. There have been loads of threads about that too recently 🤣

...I need to go to bed, clearly 😄 OP best to pop to A&E, just to be safe.

I mean my question still stands generally to be fair

No issue with you ignoring best before dates OP. I do the same, i can tell if food is off.

MASSIVE issue with fruit and veg not needing to have best before dates anymore. I'm sick of buying packaged fruit and veg that is old or spoiled and you can't tell because of that packaging.

It hasn't reduced food waste one jot, it's just made sure the customer pays for it because supermarkets are allowed to sell stuff not fit for consumption.

Thesnailonthewhale · 27/02/2026 20:44

Is this a woo thread, because surely you died already from it...?

ThePoshUns · 27/02/2026 20:45

Haha !

ilovesooty · 27/02/2026 20:46

My cleaner is wonderful and I don't even know what date was on the cooked chicken I've just eaten.

I completely agree!

I'm intelligent enough to work out whether food is actually off or not. Amd treat the BEE date as guidance. Even the use by date can be guidance.

And I've never had food poisoning.

But fruit and veg is a nightmare and goes off within a couple of days without a date.

If it comforts - the same had occurred to me as I used my out of date but fine cream hence this thread … I’ll post a thread about my cleaner (I wish!) next!

I might have a bit more from my 1kg tub of yogurt tomorrow. Best before (or whatever) 1st December.

I can recommend a consultant for a preventative stomach pump. But suggest the United Nations be called in first as well your GP. 111 and A&E

ARunByFruiting · 27/02/2026 23:58

I actually did get the shits ill from eating cream its use by date. I'd bought it reduced in the supermarket as it was on it's last day so I guess I was unlucky.
