Wrong letter on postcode, parcel delivered somewhere nearby

Posting for traffic, but I just thought I'd try to harness the power of Mumsnet, in case someone has had a green package delivered with clothes in, that isn't theirs. I wrote ND instead of NB at the end of the postcode when I ordered it, and so it's been delivered somewhere else. I've zoomed in on the photo, but just in case someone recognises their broom or bicycle in the picture, it would be lovely it it's not gone forever. Fingers crossed

Can't you work out where it is? It'll be at whatever house number you put, with the postcode you put. Eg if your actual address is 22 Hill Street N15 JNB, but you put 22 Hill Street N15 JND - it'll be at a number 22 in the N15 JND area. There won't be too many number 22s in the postcode, maybe even only one. It'll only be down the road from you too! Just go and have a look for it!

I have been walking up and down searching on and off both today and yesterday when I got an email saying it's been delivered. Unfortunately, the road is several miles long and has several postcode areas. Google maps shows where this intersects with the correct postcode, but I can't find an area that looks like this. It was delivered to the " Safe Space -Bin" according to the email, so it could be in a bin shed or something, not identifiable just looking in all the front gardens.

To PP, thanks for that, I can try knocking at the house number in that area.

If you go on a website that has an address finder on it, enter the wrong postcode and it will list the house numbers with that postcode.

Thank you. So, there isn't a matching house number with the postcode...but it does narrow it down a bit.

If there are say 30 houses with the postcode, would it be worth your while printing out 30 nice notes and popping them through each of the letterboxes with your contact details on? Obviously a lot of hassle, but only you know if it is worth the effort.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I phoned the courier HQ and they told me where my shoes had been delivered to. Was a school, during the summer holidays. Luckily someone was in the school office, opened the door to me and went and found my parcel.

Usually 15 houses have the same postcode but it can be more than that. I'm on a street with numbered houses and 26 houses have the same postcode.

sparkysalmon · 02/03/2026 18:22

It turns out it was delivered to number 18 random road instead of 98 my road. I've been to the house and left a note with my phone number explaining. People were at home when I rang the bell, because they looked at me through the window, then pulled the curtain across and ignored me.
I don't think I'm getting my parcel am I?

Hmm it sounds dodgy for getting it!

HugoThatway · 02/03/2026 19:03

I sometimes get mail for 1nn (nn being my house) because the window and address don't align. The postcodes are slightly different. When it's happened, I've popped it through the letterbox.
