To want to know what an allegation about me said?

Sorry this is long. I dont get on with my neighbour. She has an issue with me. She has caused many issues with other neighbours by spreading lies about me(I only found out since I started to talk to them and ascertained why it was all going on). This issue involves my deliveries. She keeps preventing the safe delivery of parcels in my absence. This is very rare as usually I make sure I am there for them. It only happens if delivery companies dont keep to alloted times or if its unexpected(medical parcels from hospital). I am a council tenant and reported this issue to my council as they are responsible to maintaining access to my property for me and those i give permission to enter. My safe place is beyond my back gate or hidden behind my bins. However, the neighbour interferes with every delivery i am not present for, without fail. She will tell them to either take them back or leave them on my doorstep in full view of passers by.

The council refused to act and have done so for a prolonged period of time so I logged a complaint. They said they would pass it to the ASB team. The ASB turned up at my door unannounced and I assumed they were there because of the referal. I explained the situation and how I had been recipient of abuse from her and her friends on multiple occasions. I had already provided footage of this which it was clear hadnt been watched from his response. I also provided a transcript of all dialogue on footage as requested and took me ages. The ASB officer didnt seem interested in the footage or the abuse towards me. He then said "we have had reports of you being abusive towards one of your neighbours". As i said, i had supplied the whole footage of the previous interaction showing them being abusive. I was perplexed as i had provided evidence to the contrary. I asked "who reported this?" His reply "cant tell you that, data protection" i then asked "what am I meant to have done?" He replied "cant tell you that, data protection" i then asked "so, when was this meant to have happened?" again, he replied "cant tell you that. Data protection". I said "well if you cant provide me any details I cant stand up for myself or know what you are referring to in the slightest. I know this is simply an allegation as there wont be evidence of it as it didnt happen". I then started to wonder whether they had come to visit on my reports or that of this neighbour. He said he would have a word about the parcels and he will be in touch in 10 days.

I was left wondering whether I was under monitoring due to certain wording before he left e.g. "if you dont hear from us, that's a good thing". I then contacted again to get clarification and I said I didnt think they were using the data protection lawfully and instead, using it to withhold information which I am entitled to. I know who the neighbour is. I know the report is negative. I just dont know when this is meant to have occurred Or what i am meant to have said or done. I asked if it was over 6 months ago "no, it happened recently". I have only had this one interaction recently which I provided all footage for.
Over 6 months ago, I had another interaction similar, again, regarding parcels, her being abusive. He said he will monitor for 10 days, but let slip he still hasnt spoken to the neighbour. This has lead me to believe i am being observed for 10 days on simple allegations from the neighbour.
Are they right to withhold this information? Or am I being unreasonable to want it?
Am I being unreasonable to start to think I am being treated unfairly?

Can you send a Subject Access Resquest for any information relating to you. They would have to redact the complainants details but not the allegation. If this is the council there should be something on their website site about how to do this.

I can, but its so long winded and by the time I receive the information the 10 days will be gone. Im not even sure that this information should be withheld under data protection. It doesnt help any situation and work towards any resolution. It completely breaks down the communication.

Join a renter's union for advice.

How renters unions can help - Shelter England https://share.google/CvrIdGe76MREJf81g

Also speak to the Housing Ombudsman.

There will also be a complaints hotline on your council's website.

Best of luck!

YANBU, but are you sure this guy was actually from the ASB team and not someone the neighbour has got to come round to mess with your head?

Honestly just get a parcel box.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/02/2026 05:15

I'd be checking if the council referral had been made. 6 months is a long time to sit on something, and you said it was clear they hadn't seen the footage.

That’s exactly what I about to say!

Or... she could not interfere?

Problem is that I get a lot of parcels in one as I get medical equipment for a medical condition. None of the parcel boxes I have seen will fit these in. Most have a flap to stop anyone from stealing anything which means half the box is unusable. Thought about getting friend to make one but it would be ridiculously large. They are also expensive and if I have a reasonable safe place then why am i having to pay out? Obviously I try and make sure I am in for these deliveries but I dont get notified, annoyingly. This has been an ongoing issue with the hospital, the medical company and getting some kind of notification they are on their way so I can be there when they're delivered. I shouldnt really even have to be explaining this to anyone. If i have a safe place then why cant it be delivered there... This is why I have a safe place. Anyway, that aside I am having short fencing put around front door patio so it at least shields it from view, but the problem is if she then interferes with this and tells then they cant leave them there. The fencing will be a waste of money.

The visit to you seems a bit pointless if they can't tell you what you are supposed to have done.

If they were going to observe you yo get their own evidence then just do it. By telling you first, if you were causing a problem you would have been warned not to for 10 days.

Also by not telling you what you have been accussed of, you do not have the opportunity to defend yourself, which seems unfair.

Your neighbour seems a little odd.

Is there any form of offence relating to interfering in the delivery of mail/parcels? The fact there are medical products involved makes it worse.

I did contact police on 101 and they were fully understanding and said it is an offence but a very ambigious one, hard to prove. I provided footage and they said its a grey area between civil and criminal. They said to keep reporting it and they can build up a record of the amount of times it occurs.

And, yes, the fact i get medical deliveries is the only reason it annoys me so much. Obviously, I also would like to get my other parcels unhindered but this doesnt worry me as much. She also is very rude and annoying to delivery drivers to the point they end up swearing at her and telling her to eff off. They have a hard job and just want to get on with it.

Yes, very pointless but supposedly they aren't monitoring me. I still dont understand the point of the 10 days or maybe its to do what they need to do ... or theyre lying. Im honestly sick of it because she IS verbally abusive to me and people who visit me that she has never met before. Called them cu*ts as they left down my path. I told the council and they didn't seem to act. I keep reiterating that I have footage of the events and they dont seem interested in even looking at it.
