Dirty Business

Just watched it.

Raw sewage onto our beaches and into rivers.

A child died. That poor child, an awful death.
Children and adults ill.
Suicide
Lies
Profits
Misrepresentation of facts.
Overpaid executives.

Throughly disgusting. Executives that nake these decisions should be prosecuted. Shameful. How do they live with themselves profiteering like that.

A lot of staff in the Environment Agency and other regulatory bodies did not and still do not agree with this.
We knew that this was a likely outcome but it was getting in the way of business and many of us were told to wind our necks in.

Those that work in regulation have had their hands tied by successive governments and policies when most staff want to throw the whole rule book at the water companies.
Hopefully the outputs of the Cunliff review will shake up the what and the how. The when is up to government

It is shameful! I hope this spurs a Mr Bates moment.
Those fat cat execs who profiteer should hang their heads in shame!

They won't though. Devoid of humanity.

I think you had too many words in your sentence: "those fat cat execs who profiteer should hang" would be more appropriate.

They should absolutely be charged with the death of that little girl. Absolutely fucking disgusting.

singlepringle12 · 25/02/2026 20:54

It’s horrific. I live by the sea & southern water pump sewage in front of us into the water, we have signs by the beach that tell us the water quality, it’s completely awful how they are getting away with it! My village is a tourist town, many people in summer season will swim without thinking to check the boards (I don’t trust them anyway, the app ‘Surfers against Sewage‘ is more accurate). The stats on that app are shocking.
I just received my bi-annual Southern Water bill, it’s almost doubled. What am I paying for? I can’t believe there isn’t more people listening & more action happening!

runrabbitrunrabbitrun · 25/02/2026 21:06

We should all be marching in the street about this. And lots of people belong in jail. Makes my blood boil.

Got my new water bill today....almost fainted. Will need to get a water meter.

ChuckJacksonHanditoverNsoul · 25/02/2026 21:51

Another thing that should've never been privataised .
Corrupt to the core.

Yellowstonemaddnesa · 25/02/2026 21:53

It is and yet water bills are so incredibly high !.
I don't know what the answer is but they need looking at urgenrly

I was in the area not very long after that poor child died as I was staying with family who live there.

I remember there were quite a few people saying that they'd heard she'd possibly developed e-coli from eating at a picnic table that had bird poo on it. Looking back I wonder if they water company tried to start that rumour. Certainly wouldn't put it past them.

Totally appalling, I'd make every single one of them who lied drink a glass of it.

dayslikethese1 · 26/02/2026 04:00

Privatisation. It's all about the shareholders. So depressing.

randomchap · 26/02/2026 08:04

Sadly even if the water companies were taken into public ownership. The Tories or Reform will get in at some point and sell them off again. It won't be in their manifesto as they'll know how unpopular it is, but they'll do it anyway.

Freysimo · 26/02/2026 08:09

It's not just the privatised companies that are bad. Welsh Water ( not for profit) is bad too. I'd like to know where my money goes if not to shareholders, it's certainly not on maintenance. They have a record of discharging sewage into rivers as well.

Darker · 26/02/2026 11:04

Petition signed and shared….

Ihateboris · 26/02/2026 13:47

I can't watch it as I already have high blood pressure 😫 I've heard enough in the media to know what’s happening is fucking criminal..but they all get their big fat bonuses. People should dump a truck load of sewage outside the houses of the execs! Greedy, corrupt bastards, the lot of them.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 26/02/2026 13:57

I’ve written to my MP this morning after watching the whole programme last night. It beggars belief that this has been allowed to happen.

Why aren’t we taking to the streets?

SevenYellowHammers · 26/02/2026 14:00

Thatcher

runawaycheese · 26/02/2026 14:24

Surfers against Sewage do lots of brilliant work on this. It's worth joining. They also organise lots of protests. However this seems to be taken much more seriously in the West Country with lots of people attending. At my local large seaside town last year there was little more than a handful. At least though, the Green MP was there supporting it.

Magical2026 · 26/02/2026 15:06

Feargal Sharkey has been a frontman on this issue for a long time but it feels like this needs the whole population to rise up to get this sorted. There is power in numbers.
