Well no, because I couldn't afford to work that little.

stargirl27 · 24/02/2026 11:36

Are the evening shifts from home too?

I would prefer not to work in the evenings but given the overall hours are minimal I wouldn't mind this.

No

Glittergargoyle · 24/02/2026 11:37

No, because the evenings would be a problem for me for child care

ElishaFelisha · 24/02/2026 11:37

What on earth do you do that allows you to support a child working 9.5hrs a week?

LiveLaughLidl · 24/02/2026 11:38

No, wouldn't work for me and I'm a single mum so couldn't afford to work so little.

Absolutely not - eating into 4 days of my week for 11.5 hours of work? Unless I needed those hours to accommodate other things, I wouldn't even contemplate it

Littletreefrog · 24/02/2026 11:39

Nope. Far too few hours and far too much inconsistency on when childcare is needed to sort out consistent childcare. It might be ok if kids in school and partner around in evenings but what about school holidays?

Dh works too

Talipesmum · 24/02/2026 11:40

No, because 3-8pm, or 5.30-8pm are key hours for seeing primary school children during the week. But if their other parent was with them during that time (at least for the teatime / bedtime window post childcare if you’re using childcare after school too) then it wouldn’t be so bad.

What do you mean? 9-5 five days a week eats into the day more?

OP posts:
springawakeningss · 24/02/2026 11:41

Seems like a complete waste of time.. if I wanted to work 9 hours a week I'd do it all in 1 day rather than waste 4 days

Dc in school during the day, Dh home in evenings, school holidays off

if it was something I really really enjoyed or was particularly well paid I’d endure lots of short shifts, otherwise I’d find it limiting, lots of short shifts taking over the entire week.

It can’t be done all in one day sadly, but at least it’s not 9-5 every day, this is my reasoning?

OP posts:
Redcloaktraitor · 24/02/2026 11:46

Depends on the travel to work. 2 hours a day, no matter what the time of day, with any longer than maybe 15 minutes travel each way, would feel completely pointless.
12 hours of work all in one day would be far more bearable imo.

Hmm what do you usually do at those times (the shifts where your DC are in school)?

Well of course it does - but you’d have a full time salary to compensate?!

But I have more time than if I was working full time in other positions and I earn around the same

I don’t understand sorry? Two days per week I work in the afternoon when Dc is at school and am there for pick up every day and drop off

11.5 hours a week pays the same as you would get if you worked FT?
Are you sure this job is kosher? Sounds scammy?

TheCompactPussycat · 24/02/2026 11:50

I wouldn't be happy working tiny odd bits of hours here, there and everywhere but I'm not you. But split shifts? Been there, done that (30+ years ago), would never contemplate working like that again.

Sorry, I didn't realise these are your current working hours, I thought it was a job you were considering taking. I was asking what you would usually do at those times as this would have an effect on whether it was a suitable role IMO.
