11.5 hours a week pays the same as you would get if you worked FT?
Are you sure this job is kosher? Sounds scammy?

Not at all 😅

Why on earth are you asking? Everyone says it's too little and you reply that you're getting a full time salary so you don't care. What do you want from this thread?!

Redcloaktraitor · 24/02/2026 11:46

Depends on the travel to work. 2 hours a day, no matter what the time of day, with any longer than maybe 15 minutes travel each way, would feel completely pointless.
12 hours of work all in one day would be far more bearable imo.

10 minutes drive away

It would depend where they were. Doing a split shift 2 days. Is that out the house? Then no I wouldn’t.

is it local, or what do you do with the small window in between. Do you drive to and from your work? It seems a lot of running about. By the time I got in and settled it would be time to leave. It really depends what kind of work it is, I’m used to office work so basing it on that.

do you work for fulfilment? Do you feel those short hours would give you that? Perhaps that’s not why you’re asking this tho.

i wouldn’t feel like I’d be able to get much done or make a difference if it was based on my job.

Ontheroadtonowheregood · 24/02/2026 11:48

I get around the same

In that case it's amazing if you are being paid equivalent to full time and yes I'd be delighted!

If people would like these hours, particularly with a child

For a full time salary them yes... are you kidding

goz · 24/02/2026 11:57

I wouldn’t personally want to work 3 evenings.

WorstPaceScenario · 24/02/2026 11:57

Ontheroadtonowheregood · 24/02/2026 11:40

What do you mean? 9-5 five days a week eats into the day more?

Working 9-5 for five days a week pays a full time salary; working 11.5 hours over four days a week eats into 80% of the number of days for just over 30% of the salary.

Why does it matter if other people would like the hours though?

No.

Why spend 3 evenings out at work when your child is at home when you could just work during the day?

It’s very local, not a lot of driving. In between I do homework with Dc and prepare/have dinner or take them to the playground and get an early tea out

For a full time salary. YES absolutely
I’d do practically any hours to 1/4 of the work I do now for the same pay.

It makes around the same as it would working a job all during the day

Are you about to try and recruit us all to an MLM?

I have guilt because of my Dc

Why are you assuming the OP is a lone parent?

I was assuming she contributed to her household. With these hours she’s either earning very well, or barely anything.

No.

Why spend 3 evenings out at work when your child is at home when you could just work during the day?

I could work during the day but would have to work all day every day to earn the same, this is my dilemma, I have some guilt over this, but ideally would prefer not to work full time unless I have to

OP posts:
NemesisInferior · 24/02/2026 12:04

What job is it you are doing to earn a FT salary for 11.5 hours?

On the face of it, those hours look like a pain in the arse, but if you are getting a proper salary for it then I would make it work.

noidea69 · 24/02/2026 12:05

i'd rather work more hours but during the time which my child is at school.

Working early evenings with a primary school age child is a bit rubbish.

To answer your question, no I wouldn’t choose to work 3 evenings a week when I had a young child.

What is the job? Can it be done over 1.5 day shifts instead?
