Is the job salary actually comparable to full time working equivalent roles, or do you mean that your take home on this 11.5hr job with additional top ups is equivalent?

Because I’m very intrigued if you are qualified to do this, why an organisation is paying far in excess the going marking rate for 11.5 hours, to what other organisations are paying staff working 35/40 hours a week.

I could work during the day but would have to work all day every day to earn the same, this is my dilemma, I have some guilt over this, but ideally would prefer not to work full time unless I have to

Is the dad around from 5pm then? That would make the evening working a lot less disruptive for your child. They can still do homework, tea time, early bedtime etc.
If the evenings pay a lot better than daytime work, and you’ve got good childcare at home for those times, then it seems a good compromise. Can’t figure out what sort of work would work like this, but fair enough.

PuppyMonkey · 24/02/2026 12:07

Come on OP, tell us what this miracle job is.

Would your husband also like to not work full time?

Of course and he could earn the same he does in less hours as I do, he would. I earn only slightly less than him and do 80% more of everything else

Why aren't you able to do the work you currently do at a different point in the day? Presumably it's the nature of the work? Is there really nothing else you could do if you don't enjoy it/it's making you feel guilty?

Yes he’s home at 4.30

Sounds super annoying but can't quite see the issue as it's a unicorn job that pays crazy well (imagining all sorts now!) and you are barely working. I would hate all the faffing around but if it works for you I can't see the problem.

It’s the nature of the work. I could do something else during the day, but it would pay less per hr and I’d have to work all day, every day

But I have more time than if I was working full time in other positions and I earn around the same

If the job really pays the same as a 35 hour week for 11 hours work, then I'll do it if you don't want it.

PuppyMonkey · 24/02/2026 12:13

I reckon hit man or hit woman. Grin

Sa11yCinnamon · 24/02/2026 12:13

The job has to be stripping/Only Fans or something, OP is being way too cagey....

Sa11yCinnamon · 24/02/2026 12:13

But personally I wouldn't want to work in the evenings while DC are small.

No- way too few hours for me. Eats into the best part of so many days and for like ten hours of work.

how much money are you actually going to get from this?

are you doing it for the money or is it a fun hobby job?

That’s great - I think that’s all fine then. Child has a parent around every evening - it doesn’t have to be you all the time.
And you’re around for some of the afternoon. / evening each day. Probably back in time for bedtime too especially when child is a little older.

Seems like a good compromise. But still intrigued about mysterious job.

Fbfbfvfvv · 24/02/2026 12:16

I wouldn’t like the split days and working evenings with primary aged children. If the DC were in high school it would be fine though.

For the money, are there any jobs for fun or as a hobby

I get all mornings off-take the dogs for a walk, go to pilates and I get two full days off a week, drop my child & pick up every day, but i’m sad I’m missing this section of the day with them

The thing is there is no ideal solution. nothing that works really in order to get the ideal hours that nothing gets dropped.

can you fit those hours in if so what is the issue?

Waitingfordoggo · 24/02/2026 12:20

My work pattern is not dissimilar, though I work about twenty hours a week. Some of my ‘shifts’ are two hours, some are 45 minutes so my 20 hours a week are spread through the week- mostly mornings and evenings but some afternoons too. None of it can be done from home. The only day I don’t work at all is Sunday.

It’s not perfect and sometimes I wish I could condense it all into two or three days and have the rest of the week off but the nature of the work isn’t like that. I also have ADHD and an extremely short attention span so I probably perform much better in this job than I would in a job which involves a long working day.

Manymoresometimes · 24/02/2026 12:20

What is the job and what is the pay?

Without that info who can really answer properly?

Tryagain26 · 24/02/2026 12:21

No because there aren't many hours but it is stil every day so you'd have travel costs , and possibly childcare costs on the days you work in the afternoons.
It seems a lot of effort for possibly little return

sparrowhawkhere · 24/02/2026 12:23

I find threads where the op replies in tiny snippets really frustrating!
you seem to be asking would you take a job with few hours but at random times when it pays the same as a full time job

That’s exactly what I was thinking!
It’s got to be something a bit ‘dodgy’ like that because I fail to see how 11.5 hours work could possibly pay as much as a full time job.

I have made up a LOT of stories about it by now...
