What did you achieve while your delivery was ‘5 stops away’

lighthearted not having a go at rushed delivery drivers

The Amazon app sent a notification my delivery was 5 stops away over 2 hours ago. My big, loud, but ridiculously soft, dogs were shut away out of courtesy. I’m hanging around as it’s a rather heavy, cumbersome delivery which I’d like to take straight inside.

The handy map is showing the van delivering to oh so many places around our local area while it is still supposedly ‘5 stops away’, over the last 2+ hours.

So while it has been 5 stops away I have: mixed, risen and proved bread; played with my now free roaming dogs; cleaned the bathroom; and vacuumed the house.

Anyone else?

Don't get me started.

Entire civilisations have risen and fallen while my delivery driver has pootled about my neighbourhood.
I like to imagine they're getting invited in at every stop for tea and freshly baked cake Grin It's a fairly shite job and I don't begrudge them that.

I think one of our amazon drivers lives in the next village I can be 'the next delivery for literally several hours'. I now know to ignore it till they arrive if the van shows its on mill drive.

LongDarkTeatime · 23/02/2026 17:06

The notifications have previously been OK, only about 1/2 hr before delivery
Its coming up to 3 hrs now, and I’ll have freshly baked bread to offer them soon 😂

This made me laugh

I take the view that I don't know when their break is so it's not a hugely useful piece of information. I appreciate that they're trying. For me, it's normally Tesco so at least there's only an hour window.

I had a fridge freezer delivered last year and they notified me when they got to the stop which was two stops before me. It was fairly local and the remaining stop before me was on a direct route. 4 hours! I can’t quite remember what the tale of disaster was but I felt very sorry for them. They were thrilled that I had indeed cleared the access route for them, unplugged the broken appliance which they were taking for disposal etc and that they were in & out in about 10 mins. It was a boiling day and they were even more thrilled when I offered them a rocket lolly (from the main freezer which was working!).

They explain what is going on in that documentary series about Postman Pat. Your delivery has probably accidentally got caught in some helium balloons also being delivered and the delay is while they scramble the helicopter.

Of course!

I find Amazon drivers to be very good. Don't get me started on Evri though, the bastards lie and say they have attempted delivery but you can see on the doorbell nobody has.

LongDarkTeatime · 23/02/2026 18:17

Well delivery has finally happened. Hooray!

Shut our pack of dogs away (for their safety too) and the delivery person seemed happy and untrusted. Didn’t offer the fresh bread though 😁

Thanks @BestZebbie will now catch up with the Postman Pat documentary @BestZebbie as it sounds appropriate 🎈
