To want a cleaner?

johnso · 16/06/2008 14:34

DH is trying to put his foot down, but that rarely stops me.
I want a cleaner. Our son's are at school all day, I have the time but I have a lot on my to do list, too.
DH says I should have the time to it!!
The swine!!!!
Is it really that big a deal?

Johnso, are you bored?
Perhaps if you got stuck in with your cleaning to occupy yourself you wouldn't need to think up these ridiculous threads of yours.

PembsLass · 16/06/2008 20:57

YANBU. I'd have one in a flash if we could afford it.

scaryteacher · 17/06/2008 08:34

Well I have a nice Polish lady who does 5 hours a week for me as I hate cleaning the loos/sower room/bathroom/floors etc.She cleaned for dh before I moved over to Brussels to be with him, (no cleaner and f/t teaching in uk plus ds), and he is happy to pay for her and for me not to work. It depends on if you can afford it or not.

pagwatch · 17/06/2008 08:38

johnso
the trick is to keep it this side of credible.
only 2 out of 10
very disappointing

HeadFairy · 17/06/2008 08:47

My friend has 5 children and three nannies plus a cleaner and secretary, and she still complains she hasn't got time to do anything but she is super rich!

I on the other hand am not, but I did insist on having a cleaner for three hours a week (the minimum they'll do) as a proviso for me returning to full time work after ds was born. My justification being that I do horrible hours and dh is shockingly bad at anything to do with cleaning (usually involves breaking and staining things!) I still feel guilty that I've had to resort to getting a cleaner... pathetic aren't I? In a way I admire Johnso's chutzpah.

Twelvelegs · 17/06/2008 09:16

Ah, you could've kept this up a little while longer Johnso. Nobody has given you the massive abuse you deserve for your efforts. I would try a 'can't be arsed to breastfeed thrad' or a 'working mothers are cold hearted bitches' thread if you really want an abusive thread, those WOHMs can be brutal!!!

cheesesarnie · 17/06/2008 11:01

i like this thread.

johnso · 17/06/2008 19:36

Thanks cheese sarnie. You wouldn't believe the number of anti feminists on here.

I am getting a cleaner in three weeks. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

But my kids are not at school every day so you are clearly a lush or a slattern!!!

Only teasing, tell him you are not a skiv and to hand over some cash for a lady who does.

Poohbah · 17/06/2008 20:54

Oh, I've read the whole thread now...

I clean a HUGE 4 bedroom Barn Conversion in 2 hours flat per week, it is spotless and I'm starting a Masters in Sept and my son is only 2.5years old and I look after my disabled mother, am a breastfeeding counsellor and do consultancy work so actually I think you are a totally lazy bitch. Get some Cif and a life and cut your hubby some slack.

brightongirldownunder · 18/06/2008 05:49

Johnso - you ARE Germaine Greer, aren't you?!! Please do start another thread on something just as hilarious . I've just left the one about someone wanting another baby because it was becoming so abusive and returned to this because it made me smile.
I really don't think anyone should be taking this seriously though..if you want to be offended, try reading the thread I mentioned. Horrid.

johnso · 18/06/2008 10:30

Okay, have spoken to a friend and she has a cleaner who will do it for 2 pounds an hour.
Is that the going rate?

OP posts:
nocluemum · 18/06/2008 10:39

thats what i pay mine - sounds reasonable!

johnso · 18/06/2008 10:41

Thanks, no clue. Def. do-able then, that would only be a tenner a week, which I can explain to Dh as the rise in food that's all over the news

OP posts:
mum2taylor · 18/06/2008 10:42

2 pounds an hour.....is that not illegal!!! The minimum wage for an 18 year old is more than double that! I would love a cleaner myself but me and my partner work full time so I only have evenings and weekends to clean the full house! I think you could cut out going to the gym and get more exercise by cleaning the house....then you would have even more money

brightongirldownunder · 18/06/2008 10:42

Haha! Absolutely, especially in sweatshops in china - would love to meet your friend. Is she on mumsnet too?

brightongirldownunder · 18/06/2008 10:44

Keep those comments a-coming johnso. My dull day's looking brighter!

johnso · 18/06/2008 10:46

mum2taylor- legal or not is not my problem tbh

OP posts:
johnso · 18/06/2008 10:47

Sweatshops in China have nothing to do with it, brighton.
She will be allowed to have a cup of tea etc

OP posts:
mum2taylor · 18/06/2008 10:51

Ha-Ha!! Well in this world you get what you pay for so I hope you have plenty of tea bags .... for £2 an hour Id be drinking lots of tea!!!

brightongirldownunder · 18/06/2008 10:52

Can we start up a johnso fanclub please?!
Cup of tea! Would that be the cheap stuff or your darjeeling?
Is she allowed a biscuit - or dare I say it - a cupcake?
Do feminists bake/eat cupcakes?

cheesesarnie · 18/06/2008 11:51

£2 an hour?????????

brightongirldownunder · 18/06/2008 12:02

Cheese - think Johnso is planning to employ an amoeba - the only thing that would accept that rate.

This brings back memories of a nutter i had on the phone when i worked at an insurance call center.
We had to ask peoples' occupations and one memorable lady got very angry when i asked for her occupation.
She said "I do not work", then i said "Are you a Homemaker?", "No certainly not!", she said.
Then i had to say that we have to put something down and basically she said she was not unemployed, not a student, not long-term sick/dissabled, but that she lived by other means.
Basically, i think she was trying to say that she DID not have to work in anyway as she had lots of money or something.
Can't remember what we put her down as in the end.
But she was very irrate at the thought that she was working in ANY WAY.
Makes you laugh?
I think the OP, should carry on doing her own housework.
I myself do all the housework, the gardening, looking after the kids/animals, washing/ironing (if i have to) and also find time to help out at our pre-school and do p/t gardening for old ladies.
The only thing i don't do is the washing up (have a machine) and putting out the bins (can't stand the smell/maggots).
Still have time to waste on MN!
