Has anyone had any experience of Quetiapine? I have Bipolar 1 which means I have mania episodes where I don’t sleep and feel absolutely brilliant but also it’s not great because I don’t sleep and it’s not normal to be so on top of the world you feel like you are absolutely invincible.

My psychiatrist has suggested I take Quetiapine as a mood stabiliser. Has anyone else had this? I’ve heard it can cause weight gain which is annoying but fine, however I’ve also seen it can cause a sort of hangover the next day? I need to be able to work so I’m worried about that if im honest but my family have started to see changes in my behaviour so I know I need to take it im
just worried about that

I haven’t slept more than 2 hours a night for about a month so I do need something

I was on quetiapine for a years and it was an absolute miracle drug for me as I was severely mentally unwell.
However, it is a very strong sedative and I was sleeping for about 16 hours at a time on it. I was unable to live a normal life and it wasn’t a normal sleep - it was like I was fully unconscious and once I’d taken my meds, there was no waking me.
I’ve heard it’s the same for a lot of people but I was on a very high dose. Maybe trial it for a couple of months and see if it suits you and your lifestyle.

It was fine for me, it's not too heavy of a psychiatric drug. It did balance my mood, and I didn't gain any weight.

Thanks both x

I’ve titrated down off Aripiprazole 30mg which wasn’t working for me, now on 450mg Quetiapine a day, as an anti psychotic & mood stabiliser for Schizoaffective Disorder bipolar type. The therapeutic dose is apparently 400mg - 600mg.
It seems to be effective for my symptoms of hallucinations, paranoia, ups & downs; but I can’t return to my part time job yet as despite taking it around 7pm I’m drowsy in the mornings- & my shifts start at 7am. Also I get restless arms & legs every few nights so I have to take 1mg Clonazepam as needed to stop that, which leaves me quite spaced out too.
So im giving myself 4 weeks because HR are getting antsy as my goal for getting back to work- contacting the cmht again on Monday re the drowsiness.

Also my appetite did increase initially but that’s settled now luckily.
