Would you ask for a room change if there was a patch of black mould in your hotel room? Have just noticed it. Not massive but it's dripping down the wall. Not sure if IABU. We're here tonight and tomorrow night.

Yes, I would.

Carryitjoyfully · 20/02/2026 23:18

YANBU. Honestly I was expecting to see a bit of discolouration on the sealant. What you have doesn't look healthy.

Pieandchips999 · 20/02/2026 23:20

Id ask for change but possibly tomorrow if it's gone 11pm where you are. Although if you're with kids I'd ask for a change now. Although all the rooms might be like that so I'd ask to see the new room first

Is it a well known chain?

No it's an independent hotel. They've just tried moving us and taken us to a dirty room (bless the poor man on reception!), the room shouldn't have been on his list of free rooms (there are toiletries everywhere) so my son is currently asleep on the hallway floor 🤦‍♀️

Amazed they’ve not cleaned that off. Suggests they aren’t very diligent.

RedLightYellowLight · 20/02/2026 23:49

That’s horrible! Absolutely move but I doubt their other rooms would be any different if they accept that! Not even trying to fake hide it eoth paint.

In Britain we are widely blaze about mould and should be more concerned

jvc5 · 21/02/2026 00:07

We've moved to a non mouldy but very dirty room! The only one left. I'm going to ask them to clean it properly tomorrow... Grim!

You’re not by any chance in a hotel in Tenby are you?

jvc5 · 21/02/2026 00:31

No but I am in Wales!

We had a dreadful experience with a hotel in Tenby about two years ago. Room was filthy. New room not much better. Manager was conveniently off site so no one could authorise a rebate.

I am 100% asking for a refund for tonight and if they refuse I will attempt a chargeback

Wish me luck as I ask for my refund and a cleaner 😅

Really? Did you not see the filth behind the taps and the cobwebs at the window etc?

Yes, it’s the tiles and shower curtain I was talking about, from the post I quoted.

Really? You can't see the grimey drips on the tiles and the mould spots on the shower curtain? Maybe they look worse in person.

No but I am in Wales!

We had a cottage on the Welsh coast and when we arrived I could tell there was something in the air. We then found horrendous black mould around the windows in every bedroom. We called the provider and they tried to minimise it and then when I went into a significant medical issue they offered us a new cottage. We had to stay in a hotel and the cottage company paid for a lovely hotel

We stay in Wales a lot and thankfully all other hotels we stayed in have been great. Had to go for a naff one this time as 6 nations is on the same weekend we needed to be there and I wasn't prepared to pay £500 for two nights in a premier Inn!

I'd ask for a full refund, how long are you staying, have they offered to find you a different hotel. That's not just mould,,it's a leak. I stayed in a hotels that had ants, a cottage that had black mould,on the pillows, you have to be so careful now.
